Paying It Forward: Meliá’s Executive Vice President Details His Rise To The Top

by | ADVICE FROM THE TOP., INSPIRATION

Join Hosco as we sit down with Meliá Hotels International Executive Vice President, André Gerondeau and learn about his nearly 20-year career with the international hotel chain. Although he is now based in Palma de Mallorca, Spain at the company’s headquarters, Gerondeau’s career with Meliá has led him all over the world.

He’s lived in the Dominican Republic, where he was a property GM; in Paris, where he oversaw hotel operations in France and Belgium; and in Miami, where he took his first corporate role as EVP, Americas. Hospitality is in his genes, and Gerondeau counts his father, also a hotelier, among his many mentors along the way. Born in Japan to a Chilean mother and French father, and later married to a Mexican wife, Gerondeau is no stranger to cultural diversity, and he says this is what he’s loved most about his international life: providing his family with a true understanding of the world and with an ability to feel comfortable in different environments.

He counts among his keys to success a mixture of luck—being in the right place at the right time—and passion. He concedes that with every new change in a career comes new challenges, but that overcoming them is all about how quickly one acclimates and develops a 360° vision, which allows for the next career step. For more great advice from André Gerondeau, watch the video!
