The beautiful, rolling hills of Tuscany in Italy are as alive with history and culture as they are with flora and fauna. In the heart of the region is the Golden Triangle – an area between Florence, Pisa and Siena, which has two local airports and is just an hour’s drive from the sea. It also boasts an 800-year-old estate and castle called Toscana Resort Castelfalfi, which was once home to one of Italy’s most famous dynasties, the Medici family. In the 1960s, the 11,000-hectare estate was abandoned by all but five of its residents in a countrywide rural exodus.
The renovation of the Borgo started in 2011/12 with the restoration of the residential complex comprising 41 apartments, and with the development of the first hotel and a typical Tuscan Trattoria. There are 26 original farmhouses, or Casali, on the estate, two of which have been dismantled and lovingly rebuilt. Several of the properties also line the resort’s 27-hole golf course, which is already considered one of the best courses in Italy. The estate’s castle, will house a gourmet restaurant and an American-style bar, with amazing panoramic terraces. The final phase of the project will include two more hotels, a 1.200 sqm luxury spa and 29 new apartments with private gardens in this distinctive and unique setting.
