Guest Services Manager – Front Office

Working as the Assistant Front Office Manager at Andaz London Liverpool Street, I am responsible for all of the Front Office operations which include the Guest Services, Concierge and Switchboard teams; I manage a team of 35 employees made up of Guest Services Managers, Team Leaders and entry level employees. I report directly to the Front Office Manager, Assistant Director of Rooms and Director of Rooms so being able to communicate across all levels of business is a key skill for me to have. I have the potential to grow into a Front Office Manager role within the next 8 months.

Being passionate about hospitality is essential to success as is a proven track record in Front Office operations. I started as a Receptionist and worked my way through a few different positions before taking this role on; that experience was essential for me to understand the business and have the knowledge and skills to make a difference. Coming from a different industry or operational background wouldn’t have worked as I needed a solid understanding of the guest focused environment in the five star hotel industry.

My job itself is to lead the team to ensure all targets are met; this includes company objectives such as guest satisfaction surveys, upselling goals and loyalty program enrolments. The satisfaction of my employees is the key to success; that means that training, coaching and developing the team is a big part of the role. I need to act like a conductor of an orchestra making sure we have the right people in the right place at the right time and a very hands on approach is of course necessary. I spend a fair part of my time close to my colleagues and team in the Andaz lobby (called the Andaz Lounge), taking every opportunity to create connections with them as well as the Andaz guests. That’s also aligned to our company purpose of ‘we care for people so they can be their best’ and I try to live this every day within my team and operation. 

Independently, I take initiatives and projects on board that I lead through my team to improve the high standard of service required by our brand. Being open minded, creative and innovative are necessary skills to work at Andaz as we need to constantly adapt our way of working and our approach towards the guest. We strive to be both current and innovative at the same time while maintaining memorable connections with our guests that will ensure they return to stay with us time after time. 

I am in charge of Front Office recruitment alongside the Front Office Manager, and Assistant Director of Rooms; I also complete admin duties such as payroll, rotas, development plans, tracking figures and creating new procedures so planning and organisation skills are key.
