About the Job:

An opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Sommelier to join Al Muntaha in Burj Al Arab. The main duties and responsibilities of this role:

  • Embrace Jumeirah hallmarks.
  • Report to duty on time.
  • Attend briefing and clarify any questions and share challenges with the team.
  • Control and monitor wine orders, stock and par level.
  • Pick up wines from stores after proper checking of the order and quantity.
  • Maintain wine chillier at correct temperature.
  • Maintain temperature records.
  • Communicate any changes that is required for outlet wine lists and standards in coordination with outlet managers/head and assistant sommeliers.
  • Stock rotation update.
  • Minimize wastage by avoiding too many opened bottles.
  • Ensure all tables are attended during the service, refilling and fresh orders are taken throughout.
  • Build rapport with teams to enhance team work and smooth operation.
  • Ensure 100% contribution to LQA standards.
  • Prepare mise en place well in advance.
  • Attend outlet briefings.
  • Report feedbacks and suggestions to head sommelier and outlet managers.
  • Send updates of the availabilities and non availabilities.
  • Ensure wine cabinets are well arranged and kept clean all the time.
  • Ensure proper labeling is done for all opened bottles, transfer or report as spoilage according to set standards.
  • Carry out inventories.
  • Carry out cleaning of wine chillers for specific outlets assigned.
  • Support the service team with their beverage service if needed.
  • Support with additional tasks assigned by Sommeliers/Assistant head sommelier and head sommelier.
  • Lateral service if required by the team.
  • Follow checklists and cleaning schedules.
  • Meet deadlines for assigned tasks.
  • Attend wine fairs, exhibitions.
  • Assist with orientation of new team members with regard to departmental training.
  • Attend training and development as needed.
  • Attend Tasting classes with the sommelier team or suppliers at the hotel for further developing his tasting skills and understanding of wines of the World
  • Any other duties as may reasonably be requested by the management.

About You:

The ideal candidate for this position will have the following experience and qualifications:

  • College or university degree.
  • Certified task and group trainer.
  • WSET level 2 or 3 or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in similar luxury, high end work environment as Sommelier.
  • Worked in cultural diverse workforce.
  • Intermediate level - Microsoft Office applications- particularly Excel and power point.
  • High level of written and verbal business English.
  • Complaint handling skills.
  • Good tasting skills of wines and spirits of the World
