Disney Consumer Products (DCP) is the business segment of The Walt Disney Company that extends the Disney brand to merchandise ranging from toys, consumer electronics, apparel, home decor and books to interactive games, food and beverages, stationery, and animation art.
Seeking a Product Designer with proven experience who will design toy products from concept through production working with internal teams and licensees. Candidate will be responsible for creating dynamic products within Disney Girls Toys franchises, working with team to extend existing business and generating new business. This designer will work with licensees to create new and innovative products every season for fashion dolls, small dolls, large dolls, role-play, wooden doll houses, and doll accessories. The candidate should be well versed in market trends, especially in toy and doll categories, and fashion trends.
Responsibilities
  • Responsible for product design and development of Disney Consumer Products for Disney dolls (large and small), role-play, and wooden doll houses.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with Licensees and Vendors. Works with licensees in all creative aspects of product development.
  • Handles product approvals including creative revisions, uploading and downloading, detailed comments, and prioritizing approvals within allotted time. Must be able to multi-task.
  • Ensures product design excellence by making character and product corrections, creating new artwork and making artistic contributions to new initiatives.
  • Applies knowledge of new trends and innovation in marketplace.
  • Recommends creative ideas and products to build business.
  • Presents and sells ideas to management, cross-functional partners, and licensees.
  • Coordinates with Manager on new projects and scheduled deadlines.
  • Limited domestic travel for onsite product approval with licensees and trade shows.
  • Exhibits ingenuity, creativity, and resourcefulness.
Basic Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2 years 3D product design or toy design experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of the girls toy category including: manufacturing techniques & materials technologies
  • Understanding of materials for both softgoods and hardgoods (plastics, fabrics, etc.)
  • Excellent drawing skills and ability to create character art and character overlays.
  • Experienced at working on doll sculpts and deco
  • Able to clearly communicate and present vision/ideas both in formal and informal settings.
  • Proficient at 3D product design drawing and strong sketching and concepting skills.
  • Computer skills in the following software applications: Photoshop, Illustrator, Keynote or PowerPoint, Microsoft Office Suite. 3D modeling (Rhino, Solidworks, Freeform) a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills especially presentation skills.

Required Education
  • Bachelors degree in Industrial Design, Toy Design, Fashion Design or Related Field
