Based in either Shanghai or Hong Kong, the Director will represent / serve as a leader of integrated communications, proactive media relations programs and issues management efforts in key markets throughout APAC to maintain and build upon reputation of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts (WDPR) as the leader in the family vacation and entertainment business in APAC around the globe.
Help to create/develop a sustainable regional office for Public Affairs to consider the explosive growth of both WDPR presence in APAC and in consideration of Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI) presence in APAC marketplace.
  • Develop and execute strategic communication plans to protect and enhance the reputation of WDPR in APAC as well as drive the business of WDPR in the region
  • Proactively identify and manage potential issues and opportunities
  • Manage the APAC editorial calendar planning process and contribute to WDPR global ed cal process.
  • Develop and continuously enhance relationships with key reporters and stakeholders
  • Serve as company spokesperson
  • Prepare segment, resort and PA executives as well as other Cast Members for media interviews and speaking engagements as necessary
  • Provide Executive Engagement Support for President and Managing Director of Asia, WDPR
  • Provide Executive Engagement Support for WDI and the regional office in HK (as requested by segment leadership)
  • Evaluate, establish and set up model for sustainable emergency notification procedures in the region.
  • Participate in 24-hour, on-call availability
  • Research, analyze, benchmark, provide recommendations and implement a “best in class” communications function within APAC.
  • Serve as a consultant and resource to sites in APAC, provide leadership on incoming issues and lead engagement with WDPR Burbank
  • Partner with Public Affairs teams to integrate within Internal, Executive and CSR activities developing mutually beneficial, strategically sound programs and communications.
  • Develop and manage the ongoing implementation of APAC communications plans and create tools that assist with management of emergency preparedness / crisis communications across WDPR.
  • Lead effort to maximize social media and online tools to drive and support the effective communications of key business messages.
  • Identify and educate stakeholders, including Allies, Opinion Leaders and 3rd party experts, to support business objectives.
  • Contribute to global internal communications outlets/publications, including electronic newsletter and Web site.
  • Serve as a member of Emergency Communication Team, where appropriate
  • Special projects for Shanghai Disney Resort, Hong Kong Disneyland, Tokyo Disney Resort, and APAC leadership.
  • Special Projects, as assigned by WDPR leadership (External/Exec Communications and Citizenship)
Basic Qualifications
  • Expertise/familiarity with social media channels.
  • 8-10+ years of media relations experience dealing with leading brands, high profile government work or agency experience.
  • Excellent oral/written communication and presentation skills.
  • Crisis communications experience.
  • Demonstrated creative thinking and the ability to take initiative with projects and anticipate issues of concern.
  • Disciplined organizational skills in all aspects of job performance with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Flexibility, resourcefulness and an ability to thrive in a fast-paced, changing and growing environment.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to broadly influence and effectively forge partnerships both internally and externally.
  • Proactive, self-starter.
  • Computer proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.
  • High level of corporate professionalism, maturity and political savvy.
  • Strong ability to synthesize large amounts of actionable data points.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bi-lingual proficiency (Cantonese, Mandarin, Shanghainese or Japanese) (Secondary: French, Spanish, etc.)
Required Education
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Public Affairs, Communications, Journalism, Government, Broadcast Communications or other relevant areas.
Preferred Education
  • MBA degree or equivalent
