Reporting to the Vice President, Guest Experience Technology for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, the Director of Technology will oversee the development and delivery of software products and applications, including product and system design, architectural fit and compliance, resource schedules, delivery milestones and overall product quality. The Director will be responsible for mobile applications, web development and services development in support of our photo imaging and in-park mobile entertainment technology for our global portfolio of vacation destination sites, including Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, Disney Vacation Club, Hong Kong Disneyland and Shanghai Disneyland.
The primary purpose of this role is to ensure the effective delivery and continuous availability of guest facing applications and underlying systems that support the management of PhotoPass and in-park entertainment technology.
Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership in the technical design, delivery and evolution of the PhotoPass and in-park entertainment applications, including the Walt Disney World and Disneyland PhotoPass websites and mobile applications.
  • Migrate key applications to a cloud-based delivery model to improve resiliency, scalability, cost efficiency and agility.
  • Ensure continuous delivery and availability for all on-site and on-line experiences and interfaces related to the applications.
  • Develop a technology team with well-defined career paths and development plans.
  • Manage effective working relationships with other departments, groups and vendors with which work must be coordinated or interfaced.
Basic Qualifications
  • 10+ years’ experience in software design, development and implementation, including 5+ years of experience in large-scale web and/or mobile application development.
  • 3+ years delivering technical solutions in public cloud environments (Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, Azure).
  • Demonstrated experience in the evolution and sustainment of emerging web and mobile (iOS and Android) technologies to enhance the overall customer experience.
  • Hands-on technical experience in developing service oriented architectures with an emphasis on message queues and mobile sync architecture frameworks
  • Technical experience in working with real time cache management frameworks
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong business and supplier relationships that ensure the successful delivery of IT services that drives benefits to the business.
  • Experience with agile methodologies such as Scrum and Lean software development
  • Working knowledge of software development best practices such as user story driven requirements, agile estimation, test driven development, continuous integration and peer reviews
  • A proven track record of managing globally distributed teams of technical people.
  • Experience with large, complex companies with matrix environments.
  • Understand how to motivate and achieve ambitious goals.
  • Experience dealing effectively with non-technical decision makers.
  • Background in Java, Javascript and/or PHP software development and related open source technologies.
  • Experience in the travel industry would be a plus but is not essential.
  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience) Desired.
  • The position will require ~20% travel.

  • BS or BA degree or equivalent in Information Technology related field
