Job description

We have a permanent opportunity for an experienced Softlines creative to join our Consumer Products team in Hammersmith, working exclusively on Softlines product for The Disney Store Europe.
Responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the team to develop creative solutions against Disney Store briefs that will enable growth for the Softlines business

  • Interacting with the buying team on a daily basis

  • Manage the design process, using either self-initiated designs and/or internal/external designers to create unique, Disney ownable creative from conception through to artwork development

  • Ensure all assets are creatively and technically correct

  • Maintain full compliance with corporate guidelines and delivering a commitment to producing work, which ensures character and design consistency and integrity

  • Utilise both internal resource and external expertise to design new creative directions from initial idea through to final production artwork, including patterns/borders, graphic/identity, icons, placement designs, imagery, compelling product visuals, copywriting

  • Work closely with other consumer segment and product design teams to ensure creative alignment and support on wider projects

  • Lead contribution to developing trend boards and new ideas (Ideation) that can add innovation and freshness into future projects, with a view to building on existing strategies


  • Build strong relationships among the wider creative community, maximising their specialist knowledge in order to create relevant and fresh designs

  • Establish excellent communication links with the Central Creative team in Global (US) and Marvel Creative (NY) to ensure all creative developed by the team is fully approved and on brand

  • Be the in-house expert on all Softlines creative assets and the ‘go to’ person for our EMEA teams for asset advice


  • Attend trade shows to broaden understanding of the EMEA marketplace seeking out ideas and new creative solutions in order to understand the market better and ensure The Disney Store Softlines creative remains on trend

  • Undertaking research projects with the product development team to maintain an up to date knowledge of the competitive landscape, product, and retail trends in the UK market via comp shops, trade show visits, publications and on-line research etc. on a regular basis

  • Contribute to brainstorming sessions with the internal or external teams

  • Provide relevant creative support, e.g. backing up, archiving, and creating digital presentations as required

  • Able to create both core design solutions as well as new interpretive and trend-right styles

  • Work closely with Buying team, Designers and Artists to ensure character and franchise integrity are maintained and design and art styles work are synchronised

  • Ensure projects are planned effectively to meet deadlines on time and keep within budgets

  • Play an active part in the wider Disney Consumer Products/The Walt Disney Company creative community – work and build relationships with the local and regional creative teams

  • Acting as an “ambassador” for the Disney, Lucas and Marvel brands - ensuring quality and integrity are maintained at all times

  • Create and present relevant content to support franchise roll outs

  • Participate in strategy meetings and brainstorming sessions both internal and external

  • Take ownership of professional development through regular career conversations with line manager and utilising all available learning resources; embracing the 70:20:10 model of learning
  • ​Effectively manage the team setting clear commitments and having regular career conversations
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
  • BA Hons (or similar) in a relevant discipline, e.g. Product/Fashion/Print Design or proven design commercial experience in relatable categories especially fashion and/or product design role at a licensee, retail head office or like supplier
  • Experience in retail or manufacturing design practise, able to understand how buyers plan ranges and also understand the commercial applications of great product development and graphic design
  • Must be fully proficient in Photoshop/ illustrator on Mac OSX
  • Substantial experience as a graphic designer across Adultwear and Kidswear
  • Substantial experience as a graphic designer working with licensed character
  • Strong knowledge of the manufacturing process including graphic applications and garment production
  • Experience of working with retail buyers and designers
  • Experience in garment design
  • In depth knowledge of trends colour theory and usage
