Job description

We are looking for a Costuming & Asset Supervisor to join the Disney Character Events team on a permanent basis. The role will be split between the Hammersmith Head office and the Warehouse in park royal.
Overall Purpose of the Role
Disney Character Events is part of the Disney Theatrical Group of the Walt Disney Company EMEA. The Character Events group is a small team dedicated to creating top quality entertainment-based events, character appearances and delivering magical moments for guests to support key business initiatives, internal events and the Company’s outreach program.
As part of the Disney Character Events Team and working within the different aspects of the department, the Costuming & Asset Specialist will primarily be responsible for the proactive day-to-day maintenance and preparation of costumes and assets for all events across EMEA.
The successful candidate will also be responsible for asset logistics and facility control in addition to live event participation and administration responsibilities. This role is integral to the smooth running of events and will work in partnership with the Team Administrative Coordinator and together be responsible for all admin and logistical aspects of Character appearances for EMEA.
Areas of Responsibility / Accountability
Costume Maintenance
  • Costume maintenance including cleaning, packing, repairs, fittings and alterations
  • Liaison with talent and co-ordinators re ongoing costume needs and requirements to ensure costume standards are maintained
  • Technical and electronic maintenance and upkeep of specialised costumes & assets
  • Arrange schedule and logistics for costume refurbishments
  • Liaise with US costuming teams re quotes and new costume purchases
  • Maintenance of wigs and cosmetology
Asset Logistics
  • Asset movements and scheduling between warehouse, office and event venues
  • Booking of shipments and couriers
  • Preparation of excess baggage for overseas travel
  • Organisation of departmental pool car for asset movements
  • Preparation of documentation for asset shipments including commercial invoices, international manifests and carnets
  • Event Preparation and Logistics
  • Music selection and preparation of technical requirements for each event
  • Décor selection and preparation
  • Collation of event support pack
  • Post-event asset reconciliation
  • Event expenditure preparation and handling
  • Logging of photo documentation and post-event feedback
Facility Control
  • Administer control and checks of asset facility operations including technical maintenance, fire and intruder alarms, CCTV, IT services, access points, waste management, water systems, machine and utility maintenance, air con systems and cleaning.
  • Asset Production, Organisation & Stock Control
  • Ordering and production of backdrops & banners, décor and set pieces, props and technical equipment to support events.
  • Preparation & maintenance of asset inventories including monitoring of stock control
  • Research costume stock capabilities for all projects, including close liaison with Character Programs and Development to review new costume requirements for EMEA
  • Live Event Participation
  • On the ground talent dressing, costume & production support at events including appearance co-ordination and guest interface
Administration
  • Reconciliation of asset expenditure
  • Department P-Card owner & reconciliation
  • Asset budget monitoring and tracking provision of regular updates
  • Preparation & maintenance of asset inventories, tracking & stock control databases
  • Costuming documentation development and updates
Report to:
Reports to Production Manager Character Events EMEA; responsible for asset budget monitoring and tracking
  • Experience & Professional Qualifications Required:
  • Proven experience working directly with Disney Characters or other full-body character costume character related fields essential
  • Costume and/or Theatre production related degree or experience essential
  • Proven experience in costuming or related fields
  • Proven experience of working with theatrical technical equipment is preferred
  • Knowledge and understanding of animatronics or articulated costumes an advantage
  • Knowledge of health and safety, risk assessments and manual handling preferred
Basic Qualifications Experience & Professional Qualifications Required:
  • Proven experience working directly with Disney Characters or other full-body character costume character related fields essential
  • Costume and/or Theatre production related degree or experience essential
  • Proven experience in costuming or related fields
  • Proven experience of working with theatrical technical equipment is preferred
  • Knowledge and understanding of animatronics or articulated costumes an advantage
  • Knowledge of health and safety, risk assessments and manual handling preferred
Skills Required:
  • Broad spectrum tailoring / seamstress skills including needlecraft to a high standard
  • Character costume expert
  • Excellent knowledge of the Disney brand, films and characters
  • Self-motivated, able to work alone for long periods of time. Able to communicate effectively to a wider team on solo working
  • Creative, flexible, problem-solver, team player, good interpersonal relationship skills
  • Highly organised and excellent time management skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work across different levels, to create and maintain professional relationships with talent and freelancers and with third party agencies and partners
  • Accuracy and attention to detail are key with an organised and proactive approach
  • Ability to undertake ownership of work and demonstrate initiative and pride in delivery
  • PC skills - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Photoshop, Internet friendly
  • Full driving license
