POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Manager Rooms Operations & Retail, Europe will report to the VP Rooms Operations & Services, Europe. The Senior Manager Rooms Operations & Retail , Europe is responsible to ensure locally and brand appropriate “pull through” of rooms related (front office & housekeeping & retail) programs, processes, and initiatives for the European continent.  Specific areas of focus include operations troubleshooting, working effectively with property management teams, providing rooms related information and training, ensuring close alignment between a business case and the end design of a product or service, testing/piloting products and services, communicating product/service standards and specifications, quality assurance oversight, improving current programs based on analysis, and providing expertise for pre-openings and hotel conversions.  This position will be a member of the  CLS Team  for the European continent.

SCOPE

The Senior Manager Rooms Operations & Retail, Europe   provides support / is responsible for a number of different properties/ brands Location requirements:  The Senior Manager Rooms Operations & Retail, Europe is based at the Europe Office - Eschborn

·         Language Requirements:  High proficiency (speaking, reading and writing) in English is required.

·         Travel Requirements:  There is a requirement of 50% business travel

 

EXPECTED CONTRIBUTIONS

Leadership/ Talent Management

·         Provide leadership to hotel management teams to successfully implement Rooms & Retail (front office, housekeeping) initiatives and programs

·         Communicate brand appropriate product and/or service standards and specifications (including creative, quality, and financial expectations), ensuring all hotels operate with respect to European continent and corporate Rooms standards

·         Translate brand and business strategies into discipline priorities and communicate effectively to multiple stakeholders

·         Test and/or pilot Rooms & Retail products, programs, concepts, and services; Identify operational implications prior to full-scale roll-out; Support the strategic review and planning process for new initiatives spanning multiple disciplines and brands

·         Guide and reinforce the practice of core design and development processes to maximize efficiencies

·         Knowledge of all Loyalty Programs and the ability to manage the initiatives

·         Promote opportunities for growth by utilizing understanding of the lodging business (hotel operation, industry drivers, challenges, competitors, MI’s position in the global marketplace) and keeping abreast of cutting edge Rooms trends and best practices through consultation with internal and external experts

·         Translate data from multiple sources (e.g. trend research, customer feedback, tests/pilots) into profitable brand appropriate design solutions; Ensure close alignment between the business case and the end design of a product or service

·         Evaluate profit potential and brand differentiation of Rooms & Retail  products and services

·         Maintain strong and professional working relationship with Leisure, Restaurant & Bars, Culinary, Events, Procurement, IR, Engineering, and Loss Prevention

·         Develop strategic professional relationships with suppliers/vendors; Maintain a preferred vendor list

·         Assist in the development and coordination of outside licensing and franchise relationships

·         Ensure consistency in messages (written, visual, audio) that are generated for products/services and ensure that those messages support Marriott International’s Rooms & Retail strategies; Use technology effectively to communicate and influence in a timely, high-impact manner

·         Performs other duties as assigned to meet business needs

Financial and Accounting Management

·         Balanced Scorecard Results:  Develops strategies and executes activities to drive financial results, guest satisfaction, human capital index and market share.

·         Drive revenue and improve profitability of Rooms & Retail operations

·         Enhance Rooms & Retail products and services appropriately for all brands to build customer loyalty

·         Develop effective business partnership with property ownership to develop solutions that meet the expectations and create value for both owners and Marriott International

·         Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the lodging business (hotel operation, industry drivers, challenges, competitors, MI’s position in the global marketplace) and cutting edge Rooms trends to unveil opportunities for growth

 
 

CANDIDATE PROFILE - KEY TALENTS AND EXPERIENCE DESIRED

REQUIRED:

 

·           5 years progressively responsible work experience (including management experience) with a focus in Rooms & Retail Operations (front office, housekeeping)

·           Experience in a consultative role using skills of influence to manage multiple stakeholders and priorities

·           Proven experience understanding multi brand standards and adapting tools, processes, and design to meet needs of specific brand initiatives and/or products and services

·           Experience leading projects that utilize a variety of subject matter experts

·           Experience creating profitable, operational, and cutting edge design solutions

·           Proven expertise in hands-on openings of hotels preferred

 

PREFERRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

 

·           Financial management skills (e.g. ability to analyze P&L statements, develop operating budgets, prepare a short and long term forecast, and champion capital expenditure planning)

·           Strong creative and conceptual thinker with ability to translate concepts into profitable product and service solutions and satisfy speed-to-market requirements; Ability to manage a balance between creative innovation and operational feasibility

·           Ability to analyze and react to trends across multiple hospitality disciplines

·           Knowledge of multi brand strategy and conceptual design

·           Ability to respond to complex or ambiguous situations without losing focus of key Rooms related objectives

·           Ability to work in a deadline-driven, entrepreneurial, highly matrix, relationship-based environment with changing business priorities

·           Knowledge of hotel systems  and standard software applications

·           Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to communicate effectively with technical teams

·           Ability to create effective user-centered interface designs

·           Excellent project and change management skills

·           Strong interpersonal skills (e.g. influence, negotiation, conflict management, and consensus building skills) with multiple stakeholders (e.g. customers, owners, peers, associates, vendors, corporate)

·           Excellent presentation skills; Ability to present to large groups and executive level audiences

·           Ability to train field associates (e.g. new programs/products/services, skill gaps on action plans)

·           Knowledge of workforce analysis and labor productivity

·           Knowledge of governmental regulations and safety standards including Marriott standards

 

Education and Professional Certification:

 

·          College degree in Hotel Management, Hospitality Management,  or other related areas or Equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is required
