Our Finance team serves as a critical business partner responsible for managing all global activities related to financial performance, accounting, tax, forecasting, risk management, and asset management.

What will I be doing?

As the Sales Tax Accountant, the team will lean on your deep understanding of Tax and analytical skills to administer, prepare, review, and analyze sales, use, and transient occupancy tax returns. You will have the opportunity to tap into your dynamic business insight as you assist with research, audits, and planning projects.

More specifically, you will:

  • Administer, prepare, and file sales, use, occupancy, telephone, and liquor tax returns for owned and/or managed hotels and utilize interpersonal skills to notify hotel finance and property of any abnormalities.
  • Keep accurate tax rate schedules for all assigned properties, and timely notify finance and property of any changes.
  • Maintain jurisdiction files for assigned properties following state and local law.
  • Complete monthly review of assigned properties claimed room exemptions with the responsibility of accepting or rejecting exemptions to comply with laws and rules.
  • Respond to requests for tax information by internal customers and taxing authorities, resolving compliance issues with taxing authorities.
  • Build and maintain a strong partnership with corporate hotel accountants and hotel location personnel.
  • Maintain a dedicated tax calendar with due dates, registration numbers, database, etc., that will ensure all returns are filed timely.
  • Help develop and improve methods of filing tax returns and maintenance of tax department files.
  • Assist in performing “self-audits” of hotel properties.
  • Support with the maintenance of the tax return system, making corrections and updates monthly to stay current with all law changes, rate changes, etc.

To fulfill this role successfully, you should demonstrate the following minimum qualifications:

  • Two (2) years of general ledger account experience
  • One (1) year of professional tax experience
  • One (1) year working with computerized financial systems
  • Knowledge of tax compliance software
  • Knowledge of multi-state sales & lodging taxes
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Suite including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

It would be helpful in this position for you to demonstrate the following capabilities and distinctions:

  • BA/BS Bachelor’s Degree
  • Two (2) years of professional tax experience
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
