POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Meeting and Event Technology will report to the Sr. Director, Event Management for the Americas. The Director is the subject matter expert responsible for strategies related to identifying, creating and implementing new ways to deliver meeting and event (M+E) technologies to maximize revenues and enhance the attendee experience.  M+E technology includes the integration of meeting room, personal device, property technology and audio-visual capabilities. They will also own the relationship with the preferred (MSA) Audio Visual vendor and ensure compliance and deliverables to MSA terms and conditions; be the champion for training and oversee the technology relationship with the Americas sales and event teams as a subject matter expert to improve sales closure and A/V commissions.  The Director will have expertise in managing larger business processes and/or projects, setting priorities and measurable objectives, monitoring and reporting progress and results; and serve as the liaison to applicable technology and/or design partners in disciplines within the Americas, Global Design and Information Technology to drive performance, and measure success and effectiveness of M&E technology.

 

Key accountabilities include: 

  • Grow property AV revenues and commissions
  • Manage partnership with preferred (MSA) AV provider
  • Inform on trends and forward-looking capabilities; consultative involvement in new builds and renovations
  • Establish strategy for M+E technology platform
  • Maintain company-wide standards, policies, governance
  • EXPECTED CONTRIBUTIONS

     
    • Grow property AV revenue and commissions
      • Create framework to drive property participation in third party master service agreement.
      • Builds eco-system with guiding principles to assist property and above property teams with closing strategic account business
      • Develop scalable short and long-term strategies for growing revenue
      • Develop training for property and above property event and sales teams
      • Collaborates with the continent BMSC Top Line Service Delivery and Performance team to deliver superior account management support and drive engagement in offerings
      • Leads resolution challenges on business requests that have broader impact and/or risk.  Presents alternative solutions and impact assessment
      • Generates innovative solutions/ creative approaches that result in identifying the highest opportunity (markets/scope, etc.) areas for action.

    • Establish strategy for Meeting and Event technology platform; continue to evolve to position the company as a leader
      • Partner and provide input to Global Design Strategies regarding property Meetings and Events technology solutions requirements
      • Represent company at key industry and trade events to understand evolving trends and technology
      • Identify upgrades to existing platforms and develop processes to prioritize and secure funding source
      • Provide capital and operating budget guidance 
      • Identifies business development opportunities and develops recommendations to cultivate, while ensuring the sustainability of existing program and stakeholder/vendor relationships
      • Assumes conduit role in vendor relationships
      • Leverages data to implement strategies/offerings and drive effectiveness to optimize performance. Create measurable metrics for success, ROI and compliance
     
    • Sustain company-wide standards, policies, governance
      • Facilitates balanced decision-making in establishing policies and governance related to current and new technology strategies; gains alignment with property, continent, owner, brand, franchised stakeholders
      • Leads efforts to adapt companywide standards (Operations, Brand) on Marriott Global Source (MGS) and other required portals
      • Consults with Global Quality team to define and monitor Brand Standards as identified
      • Builds and maintains effective partnerships with all internal and external stakeholders
     

    Perform other duties as assigned.

    Travel required, at times to remote locations.

     

    CANDIDATE PROFILE - KEY TALENTS AND EXPERIENCE DESIRED

    Required Education:

    • 4-year bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Business Administration, Information Resources, or related professional area related preferred or equivalent experience in Operations or related professional area.
     

    Required Experience:

    • 8+ years of business management/sales leadership experience in the hotel event technology (audio/visual) field
    • Elevated understanding of multiple technologies and delivery of outstanding guest experiences
    • Coordinating efforts of multiple external providers of technology products and services
    • Strong presentation, verbal and written skills; attention to detail
    • Be self-directed to influence and collaborate across multiple areas of the organization while creatively maximizing resource utilization
    • Comfortable in a deadline-driven environment, often with changing business priorities
    • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, develops estimates and manages to a budget
    • Ability to benchmark other business to identify effective technologies, processes, design innovations and trends
    • Unique drive to continue pushing the product or service forward
    • Forward thinker able to push products and service to enhance/drive a positive customer experience
    • Demonstrated collaborative skills with ability to work with cross functional teams
     

    Preferred Experience:

    • B.S./B.A. in related field or equivalent experience
    • Passionate about their craft/area of specialization
    • Expertise in managing multi-brand platforms, client support, vendor management, account management and project management
    • Able to listen and incorporate new information and viewpoints.
