JOB SUMMARY

The Assistant Director of Sales is an experienced hotel sales leader and is responsible for the development, selling, and maintenance of group and transient sales accounts to achieve both individual and team sales goals. Reporting to the Director of Sales and Marketing, this position is a role model in the department and assists in the training and onboarding of new Sales Managers.  In addition to achieving individual sales goals, the Assistant Director of Sales manages and is responsible for the group sales managers' performance towards achieving their annual room night and revenue goals.

  • Functions as the leader of the Resort’s Group and Business Transient sales effort in support of the Director of Sales & Marketing
  • Provides day-to-day leadership and oversight to the on-property Group Sales Managers and Executive Meeting Managers with a focus on training and building long-term, value-based customer relationships that enable achievement of the property's sales objectives
  • Solicits, books, and develops local group business
  • Achieves revenue goals by developing new accounts and growing current hotel accounts in a profitable and win-win selling approach.
  • Assists with the development of, and manages,  group sales revenue and operation budgets and provides forecasting reports
  • Works with management team to create and implement a Group Sales and Business Transient Sales Plan adressing revenue, customers, and market
  • Assists with selling, implementation, and follow-through of group sales   special offers and promotions for group business; as well as, coordinating a quarterly sales blitz
  • Executes and supports departmental operating plan, company SOPs, brands’ customer service standards and Resort’s brand standards
  • Executes and supports the operational aspects of business booked (e.g., generating proposal, writing contract, customer correspondence)
  • Participates in Daily Business Review Meeting, Sales Meeting, Staff Meeting, and EO Meetings.  Coordinates and executes weekly 1 on 1 meetings with direct reports
  • Attends weekly 1 on 1 with Director of Sales & Marketing
  • Coordinates and deploys group sales resources on-property to monitor the pull-through and sustainment of sales strategies and selling solutions
  • Verifies that the property implements a seamless turnover from sales to operations and back to sales while consistently delivering high level of service
  • Manages the property's reactive and proactive group sales efforts
  • Monitors the effective resolution of guest issues that arise as a result of the sales process by creating mechanisms to channel issues to property leadership and/or other appropriate stakeholders
  • Maintains ultimate accountability for verifying that the team maximizes group revenue opportunities by up-selling and accurately forecasting revenues (e.g., catering and group rooms) for all events
  • Performs other duties, as assigned, to meet business needs
  • Interacts effectively with guests/clients, sales and kitchen, vendors, competitors, local community, catering associations and other hotel departments in order to maintain guest satisfaction
  • Executes exemplary customer service to drive customer satisfaction and loyalty by assisting the customer and monitoring their satisfaction before and during their program/event
  • Develops a close working relationship with operations to execute strategies at the property level
  • Manages and directs the on-property group sales effort to achieve hotel revenue goals by proactively targeting current and new high value accounts in the market and implementing effective sales deployment strategies to grow market share
  • Works with the Director of Sales & Marketing to establish understanding of sales strategy and effective implementation of this strategy for the hotel
  • Assists in associate development and workforce planning priorities by assessing, selecting, retaining and developing diverse, high-caliber talent that can lead the organization today and strengthen the leadership bench for the future. Works with Director of Sales & Marketing to anticipate future talent needs based on business or individual growth plans
  • Trains and mentors sales associates, evaluating performance and executing RODs, Development Plans, and Performance Improvement Plans as necessary


JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience 4-year degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Marketing, Hotel and Restaurant Management, or related major, or 4 years experience in hotel sales, marketing, catering, or related professional area.
  • Experience Ideal candidate will have 3 - 5 years hotel sales experience at full-service hotel, or a combination of property based and regional/ multi-unit experience.
  • Experience Prior managerial experience, motivational and training skills.
  • Skill Extensive knowledge of sales skills - Ability to effectively communicate in oral or written form to internal and external constituents - Ability to assess /evaluate employees performance fairly - knowledge of revenue management - Ability to supervise, train and motivate multiple levels of managers - Knowledge of Resort and competitive market - Ability to analyze data and establish appropriate action plans - Desire to participate as part of a team - Ability to use computer programs desirable (Microsoft Word, Excel, CI/TY)
