The Manager Distribution will be responsible for delivering on the Marriott International’s 3rd party OTA strategy for the organization and the local market, whilst supporting hotels by developing and implementing Hotels strategies. The manager will also be ensuring the acquisition and maintenance of key partnerships with key identified clients. This position will ensure the necessary online revenue goals are achieved and to ensure profitability to the organization.  This role will also provide local market insights and recommendations to the broader organization. The role will also support the local leisure strategy by ensuring brand presence and respective revenue goals are achieved.


Revenue through online OTA channels has grown significantly accounting for almost 10% of gross sales. Hotels have an opportunity and obligation to grow their visibility online and fully activate all the approved online tools available to them in order to increase revenue and room nights. The ultimate success for growing business across the OTA channels is dependent upon knowledgeable, well-trained, and fully-immersed STAFF in the field, working in close collaboration with Corporate and the Regions, to execute the company’s strategy. This position specifically, will work with hotels to ensure they are fully activated online and optimized across all identified OTA’s.


The local leisure segment is a key focus for Protea Hotels as it positions itself as the No.1 leisure hotel brand in South Africa. Due to the nature of the market and hotel portfolio, Protea Hotels is focused to drive incremental leisure business through its direct channels and through various market leaders within the market. it is key in a competitive market to develop and promote leisure packages for the domestic market within which we operate.

  • Sufficient understanding of traditional and online marketing

  • 3+ years of Internet marketing experience

  • Ideal candidate will have hotel property experience, hotel sale and marketing experience, or equivalent. 

Skills and Knowledge

  • Overall knowledge of agreement terms with Protea Hotels OTA partners

  • Strong account management skills

Education or Certification 
  • College degree in hospitality management, marketing, technology, or business preferred OR equivalent market/job experience 


Sales and Marketing:  Focuses on growing Groups top line online revenue by executing against the OTA business strategy. Implements on-line marketing programs in all segments to maximize revenue. Achieves individual goals and contributes to team goals. Deliver on achieving performance goals as set out for identified local leisure clients and to increase brand awareness across the domestic market.


TECHNICAL EXPERTISE (Learning and applying personal expertise)


The following are specific responsibilities and contributions critical to the successful performance of the position.  These are based on the regional scope of identified metrics to ensure effective delivery to achieve the business goals. 

  • Serve as the Companies direct contact with regards to all online travel agencies.

  • Reports directly to the head of Online distribution.

  • Supports hotels on appropriate strategy for Online Travel Agencies.

  • Set reasonable ecommerce goals for the hotel, review progress periodically, and troubleshoot performance issues

  • Suggest budgets for the hotels for OTA activities

  • Provide tracking, analysis, and reporting on the performance of all contracted OTA’s.

  • Where appropriate, make a business case to the executive team for market specific initiatives.

  • Ensure that all hotels are participating in approved OTA’s and wholesalers

  • Regularly audit content, images, reviews and star ratings on OTA’s and wholesalers, and work with hotels to make appropriate corrections

  • Explore with OTA partners merchandizing opportunities for brand campaigns and for hotel specific initiatives.

  • Collaborate with hotel Revenue Leaders and audit hotel performance on OTA’s

  • Identify new local and niche sites in the region and contract accordingly.

  • Train and educate hotels on all operational policies and procedures.

  • Support the product manager in developing the local leisure campaign calendar

  • Ensure goals are set and achieved through the active sales schedule for identified local leisure accounts.

  • Oversee team to ensure sales and marketing activities are conducted on the basis of business needs.

  • Approve and contract identified new opportunities to grow domestic leisure footprint.
