Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Legal Counsel who has experience in hotel operations to join us on a full-time ( or for the right candidate, part-time basis ) at our Brisbane or Maroochydore Office.

As Minor Hotels has properties within Australia and New Zealand, you will provide high level competent and timely legal advice, opinions, recommendations in line with legislation and business operating requirements within these countries. We seek a commercially minded legal professional with a proven track record of communicating, and resolving, complex legal problems in plain language to various internal and external stakeholders.

You need to provide support to the in-house Legal Department and other key stakeholders throughout the Company to ensure strategic goals and objectives are being achieved.

In this role you will work with a specialised and supportive team. Reporting to the Legal Director, you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Manage 1-2 legal personnel, undertaking general employee management, oversight of their workload, performance management, progression and support; 
  • Ability to autonomously review, negotiate and draft a large range of corporate and commercial agreements (including property agreements, leases, corporate and commercial contracts, sponsorship agreements, goods and services agreements and more);
  • Draft and negotiate large scale property leases or hotel management agreements;
  • Provide ad hoc legal advice for property and consumer related matters across Australia and New Zealand (65+ properties)including advice and recommendations on the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).


  • Tertiary Qualifications in Law or Law Commerce and at least 5 years or more PAE; 
  • In-house experience, and prior experience providing legal advice with respect to strata laws, will also be highly regarded;
  • High level expertise in document review and drafting;
  • Proven ability to communicate, and resolve, complex legal problems in plain language;
  • Strong technical knowledge and skills related to the administration and operation of a legal function; and
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal/relationship building skills which extend to all levels of the organisation.
