Job description

Bar manager required for famous and busy ski resort bar in the French speaking part of the Swiss Alps in the ski resort of Verbier, Switzerland.

This position is a lifestyle as well as a career opportunity as Verbier is a special place for those who want to live in the outdoors and live in one of the top international ski resorts.

The point to understand is that if the candidate is the right person for the business then the possibilities of better remuneration etc will get better. For example, the person can potentially get a year contract, be included in bonuses and then eventually be included in profit share. This can only happen if the person is suitable, proves himself and is willing to contribute to and improve the business to be able to generate the income to justify these possibilities.


The candidate must have at least 5 years of previous managerial experience of running a busy and demanding bar environment and must be between the age of 24 and maximum 30 years old. French should ideally be the first language and English the second. Bi-lingual in French and English is ideal. This person must have an excellent knowledge of both food and beverage with the ability to create a drinks menu and then also able to affect the necessary quality control on food items being despatched from the kitchen. Music knowledge of all genres, basic technical know-how of stereo and DJ equipment, and social media savvy will be invaluable in performing the role. Event or function management experience will also be valuable. Computer skill sets such as Excel, Word are essential and Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop advantageous.

An “hands on” approach is essential for the daily running of the bar during the ski season which will involve actively working behind the bar during respective shifts. The bar manager will be required to be present in the bar daily for a minimum of 8 hours a day and then a further minimum of 2 hours a day before trading times to prepare the bar, check and stock incoming orders, prepare for any kind of event that may be taking place and ensure that the bar is completely ready and in order for opening.

Motivation, high energy, punctuality, going the extra mile, friendly courteous and personable, approachable, working and leading by example are all traits required of this position. Leading a youthful and energetic team of 20 employees on a daily basis, encouraging a fun work environment whilst maintaining the required standards set by general management and owner. The bar manager will report directly to the general manager and the owner.
This is a real opportunity for someone that may be interested in a longer term of employment once an initial trial season has been completed and carving out a niche and new existence in the ski resort of Verbier.

If not Swiss, this person must hold a British or EU passport, have a clean driving licence and must be of good health. Interest in and participation of snow sports are beneficial.
