Department:

Dhiafatina For Hotels (also known as Dhiafatina) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Qatar Airways Group (QR Group). Dhiafatina, which is an Arabic word meaning Our Hospitality, represents the QR Group expansion into the hospitality business. This subsidiary of QR Group was established in 2010, and has a growing portfolio of hotel properties that have been hand-picked to complement Qatar Airways’ global strategy of growth for the future.  In this role, you will have a broad remit undertaking supporting our hotel portfolio in Financial Accounting, Business Performance Management, Business Planning as well as Investment Analysis for new acquisitions.

 

Additionally, the role provides financial support to the Chief Subsidiaries Officer and his team in broader commercial projects and acquisitions complementing the core airline business in the areas of real estate development and commercial management. Key projects typically include commercial and residential real estate developments or acquisitions to meet the needs of the growing business.

The Role:

Reporting to Finance Manager, the position will be responsible for the preparation of financial and strategic planning, monitor execution of financial plans by tracking risks, controls, opportunities, and driving corrective actions in cooperation with the management team. As a subject matter expert the role will provide value-added, meaningful, and insightful reporting and analysis for Qatar Airways Subsidiaries.

Key responsibilities of the role:

Operational

  • Analyse monthly financial statements, identify the drivers of financial performance and proposes potential solutions. Evaluate and prioritize financial and operational viability and attractiveness of solutions proposed by self and others.
  • Produce periodic financial forecasts, projection as well as annual strategic and financial plans.
  • Independently complete reviews of current practices to ensure effective control and/or feasibility reviews of proposed business operating plans to ensure the most efficient functioning of all areas of the company.
  • Prepare analyses and develop new reports/formats/distributions media in order to ensure efficiency within the department.
  • Review and prepare analyses of potential new business ventures to evaluate adequacy of supporting business case.
  • Report on actual investment or initiative results after implementation and compares to original project plan. Monitor the capital budget to ensure funds are spent as intended.
  • Present annual plan process within assigned area, and functions as a resource for area’s planners on the criteria for the current processes.
  • Maintain and update key operating statistics of QR Subsidiaries and constantly sought at various levels of management for decision-making.
  • Recommend to management any updates to accounting policies/standards related to financial planning, reporting and analysis.
  • Review and establish internal controls for the department and implement corrective actions.
  • Review and update internal accounting policies and procedures.

Management & Leadership

  • Establish the department or teams objectives and priorities to align with and support business objectives.
  • Regularly evaluate the department or teams objectives, plans, procedures and practices, and makes appropriate changes if needed.
  • Oversee and supervise employees. Direct daily activities, recruit, train, develop and discipline to ensure a high standard of service delivery. 

 Development

  • Take responsibility for own ongoing personal development and growth of expertise.
  • Train and develop other employees, for proper succession planning and risk management.
  • Assist in the response to any emergency or a major operational disruption affecting Qatar Airways or its subsidiaries, including support of the Qatar Airways Special Assistance Program.
  • Train Qatari staff in the duties above.
  • Perform other department duties related to his/her position as directed by the Head of the Department.

Operational Safety

  • Responsible to ensure that employees at all levels understand work health and safety requirements and expectations through provision of relevant QR Group induction, information, instruction, training and supervision.
  • Ensure compliance to all relevant safety, security, quality and environmental management policies, procedures and controls across the operation to assure employee safety, security, legislative compliance and delivery of high quality service with a responsible environmental attitude.
  • Ensure that all managers and supervisors understand work health and safety requirements and expectations to the extent that they can pass on relevant information, identify training needs and provide appropriate supervision in their workplace.
  • Take a direct and personal interest in reported injuries, incidents, near misses and hazards to ensure that appropriate reporting, investigation and response is being achieved.

 

About You:

Qualifications:

Essential

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent
  • Graduated with a major in Commerce/Accounting or a related field

Preferred

  • Possess a qualified professional accounting certificate like CA/CPA/ACCA/CIMA
  • MBA Finance

 

Previous Experience:

Essential

  • Specialist - minimum 5 years of job-related experience required

Preferred

  • Airline experience, ground handling or catering experience, banking institutions.

 Job Specific Skills:

Essential

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to review variances, understand business cycles and their impact on the profit and loss account.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills are a must as is the ability to work effectively across the organization.
  • Good knowledge of Internal Finance System
  • Knowledge of cost centre accounting, preparing budgets and forecasts.
  • Internal practical and technical knowledge needed including management skills
  • Must have excellent computer skills, including Microsoft excel, Word, MS Access and Power Point and have proficiency with Oracle Financials.
  • Must have the ability to analyse and interpret data
  • Must have excellent organizational ability to be able to set priorities, handle multiple responsibilities, work interruptions and meet deadlines.
  • Must have the ability to work independently with minimal instructions
  • Must have good interpersonal skills.
  • Must have the ability to maintain strict confidentiality of records and information
  • User level experience in any ERP preferably in Oracle and computer literate with a thorough knowledge of Microsoft word, excel and power point.
  • Excellent English language communication skills both written and oral and well developed interpersonal skills.
  • Strong aviation specific profile in either expenditure or revenue accounting.
  • Managerial skills - Ability to delegate work, set clear direction and manage workflow. Strong mentoring and coaching skills. Ability to train and develop subordinate's skills. Ability to foster teamwork among team members.
