Head Waiter Job Description

To support the seamless running of the restaurant by providing a highly efficient and effective service, ensuring standards are maintained and guest comfort and safety is paramount at all times. Excellent product knowledge so as to confidently recommend and upsell the various products on offer. To identify training and development needs within the department and to take appropriate action.


Customer service
• To provide a friendly, courteous and professional service at all times.
• Be responsible for the well being of the customer at all times, anticipating
an exceeding their needs and follow up on any requests they may have.
• Anticipating and identifying any cause for complaints and resolving before
guest recognition.
• To be a first contact point for any complaints, trying to resolve them before
handover to manager.
• To demonstrate a high standard of personal appearance, always wearing
the full and correct uniform and ensuring good personal hygiene.
• To ensure the recognition and retention of guests.

Service Standards
• To liaise, develop, delegate and supervise the CDR.
• To follow and uphold the steps of service according to the standards.
• To recommend, inform and help to guide the customers on their possible
choice and their availability
• To gain and retain the customers name and use it through their dining
experience and on return visits.
• To ensure effective communication from the restaurant to the floor
Managers and HOD.
• To have complete food and beverage knowledge on requested items and
strive to exceed them.
• Taking orders appropriately to POS system.
• Recommend, guide, inform of specials or menus missing items.
• To make sure orders are appropriately delivered in an elegant manner.
• Maintain clean table during guest meal.
• Upsell (Beverage, Food, Club or PDR).
• Ensure dietaries requirements are met and surpassed.
• Attentive to guest needs and actively engage with them.
