Duties & Functions:

  • Direct and manage all group, transient, and catering/banquet sales activities to maximize revenue for the hotel
  • Prepare, implement and compile data for the strategic sales plan, monthly SMART goals, annual goals, sales and marketing budget, forecasts and other reports as directed/required
  • Develop rates, group ceilings and deployment strategies through review of competitive data, demand analysis and mix management
  • Recruit, direct, manage, train and counsel sales staff. Oversee departmental matters as they relate to federal, state and local employment and civil rights laws
  • Participate in sales presentations, property tours and customer meetings
  • Conduct and attend daily business review meetings, weekly strategic sales meetings, management meetings and other meetings as required/ requested
  • Manage and direct all advertising, public relations and promotional activities
  • Represent the hotel in community and industry organizations and events
  • Participate as team player with other key executive members
  • Provide constructive feedback to all departments and to hotel sales and marketing staff
  • Be a leader and role model to all employees
  • Supervise, administer and ensure timely completion of all activities of the Sales Department
  • Develop a full working knowledge of the operations of the hotel, including Food and Beverage, Guest Services, Front Office, Housekeeping and Revenue Management
  • Develop a complete knowledge of company sales policies and SOP’s, and ensure knowledge of and adherence to those policies by the sales team
  • Develop and maintain market awareness to ensure ability to predict revenue opportunities and set proactive strategies
  • Meet or exceed established goals
  • Operate the Sales Department within established sales expense budget
  • Coordinate group, transient and catering bookings to maximize profits
  • Initiate and follow up on leads
  • Monitor production of all top accounts and evaluate trends within said market. Ensure sales staff is held accountable for those accounts within their respective territories
  • Coordinate all non-group transient sales and catering solicitations to maximize market mix
  • Administer training in the Sales and Catering departments
  • Assist in the preparation of required reports in a timely manner
  • Conduct weekly sales meetings and daily line ups
  • Conduct regular business review meetings with Sales and Catering, operations staff and General Manager
  • Providing functional leadership as well as strategic support for subordinates, executive leadership, internal customers and vendors, including agencies.


Leading a team of professionals with functional expertise including but not limited to Public Relations, Multi-Media and Graphic Design.

  • Frequent communication with the operations team including F&B, retail, HR, IT, other marketing areas and vendors.
  • Driving revenue for the property in conjunction with other marketing areas.
  • Budget management.
  • On property communication (static, digital and video communications.)
  • External advertising (Print, Broadcast, Online, etc.)
  • Tracking and resolving problems/issues escalated by end users.
  • Devising or modifying procedures to solve process problems that will result in more efficient productivity and higher caliber product.
  • Gathering business objectives from operations teams and proposing marketing solutions to help achieve them.
  • Ensure that all guests feel welcome and are given responsive, friendly and courteous service at all times
  • Any other reasonable duties as assigned by the supervisor or manager.
  • We recognize we are in the hospitality industry and that may require us to provide lateral service.  We will on occasion call for each individual in the team to on a routine basis perform various related tasks as needed in the spirit of providing exceptional guest service.
  • Be familiar with all sbe Group sales policies and selling techniques with an emphasis on maximizing occupancy, Average Daily Rate (ADR) and Banquet and Catering revenue
  • Conduct all Sales and Catering Team Performance Reviews
  • Motivate, coach, counsel and discipline all Sales and Catering department personnel according to sbe Group policies
  • Review meeting planner evaluations as received to ensure that any problems are rectified
  • Conduct a professional, thorough site inspection of the hotel with clients, exhibiting key features and benefits of the property, and ensure that all Sales Managers conduct thorough site inspections
  • Develop strategies to increase share from competitors
  • Any other reasonable duties as assigned by the supervisor or manager.
