Resort Activities Animator (Seasonal Spring/Summer 2018)

The Fairmont Banff Springs is looking for an energetic individual to assist in the delivery of our Resort Activities program through both the Youth Activities & The Outdoor Recreation Centre. As the front-line colleagues serving our guests at our variety of activities, Resort Activities Animators should have a wide variety of talents but above all should have excellent customer service skills and a willingness to learn. This is an excellent opportunity for the candidate looking for experience working with several different aspects of the hospitality industry.

Summary of Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Creative Director, Resort Activities, responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Consistently offers professional, engaging and friendly service
  • Consistently offers professional, engaging and friendly service  
  • Interact with and supervise all children participating in Youth Activities programs, ages 5-12 years, by providing a safe environment so children of all ages will enjoy themselves
  • Assist in the set-up for all facilitated activities and execute clean-up duties upon completion of program, including cleaning and sanitizing of spaces and objects, before, during, and after the facilities open / activity ends.
  • Facilitate and present small and large scale activities independently or with other Resort Activities Animators, as needed in a youth and/or family environment
  • Contribute new activity ideas and assist in the future development of Resort Activities, as well as other programs
  • Responsible for overseeing the daily operation of the Outdoor Recreation Centre which includes booking rentals and selling products and amenities.
  • Expected to act as an ambassador for our hotel and community by providing information about facilities to our guests
  • Required to liaise with other departments and staff members in the hotel in the coordination of activities
  • Adhere to all policies regarding environmental sustainability, health and safety, etc.
  • Empowered to resolve any issues or concerns which includes documentation and communication of any incidents
  • Execute additional job responsibilities, as assigned by Resort Activities leadership, based on operational need.

Qualifications:
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR “C” or greater is mandatory
  • Minimum two years recent experience working in a high-volume, fast-paced recreational / camp environment with children / family.
  • Strong oral and written communication and organizational skills
  • Must be able to command the attention of large groups of children
  • Positive, outgoing and professional attitude with a passion for working with children.
  • Previous experience facilitating / hosting many types of games, crafts, activities, interactive programming, etc
  • Be flexible with your work schedule, job duties and work locations
  • Enjoy working in a high-volume, fast-paced, guest-service oriented environment
  • Appreciate diversity among guests and colleagues
  • A proven record of excellent guest service skills
  • Must be a highly responsible, self-motivated, creative, energetic & extremely patient individual
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous cash handling and POS experience is required
  • Graduate or student of an Outdoor Recreation, Tourism or Early Childhood Education program or a suitable combination of training and experience
  • Bi-lingual in French
  • Experience working with special needs children

Physical Aspects of Position (include but are not limited to): 

  • Must have a reasonable level of physical fitness to be able to run any of the activities
  • Walking, hiking and playing sports (includes water sports) with children aged 5-13 for up to 6 hours
  • Lifting objects up to 45 pounds
  • Extensive walking throughout the Hotel
