Summary of Responsibilities:


The Health & Wellness Advisor will oversee and execute our Health, Safety, and Wellness programs and strategies to improve Colleague experience and productivity and reduce risk in the workplace.

  • Oversee the  process for both work related and personal injury claims including: accident investigation,  reporting, modified work offers, the return to work process, cost tracking and business impact, and generate appeals as required.
  • Ensure legal and regulatory compliance including development of proactive preventive strategies and relevant safety training (e.g., Bullying & Harassment Prevention, Safe Lifting, WHMIS 2015/GHS, etc.).

  • Organize and promote wellness programs and activities including managing the Wellness Committee. Host ongoing and annual events.

  • Manage requests for accommodation and develop accommodation plans for  injuries and disability. 

  • Responsible for maintaining Certificate of Recognition (COR) status through the completion of both internal and external safety audits.  Work with Senior Management to ensure correction of identified deficiencies.

  • Maintain and ensure compliance with all health and safety policies; develop new policies and procedures as required;

  • Work with Managers to promote and maintain a safe and healthy work environment and correct identified hazards

  • Conduct hazard identification risk assessments and create relevant safe work practices.

  • Conduct ergonomic assessments and complete job demands analyses (including both physical and cognitive requirements).

  • Track and analyze incident statistics and costs for month end reporting; identify opportunities to reduce associated costs.

  • Manage the Attendance Support Program.

  • Co-Chair the Joint Health and Safety Committee, including but not limited to: providing training to all JHSC members, facilitate meetings, distribute minutes and support the co-chairs with implementing and addressing recommendations.


    • Relevant post-secondary degree (e.g., Kinesiology, Occupational Health and Safety, or Human Resources)
    • A minimum of 2 years of experience in the areas of disability management, return to work, and occupational health and safety.
    • In-depth knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety and WSBC Policies and Regulations.
    • NIDMAR CDMP, CRSP, CHRP, or other related professional designations is an asset.
    • Experience on a JHSC and in unionized environments is an asset.
    • COR Internal Auditor Certification is an asset.
    • Ability to develop and maintain an atmosphere of trust and mutual support with employees, supervisors, and Senior Management.
    • Strong ability to solve problems and make difficult decisions.
    • Excellent coaching, facilitation, training and communication skills; as well as a high degree of discretion when dealing with sensitive information.
    • Able to influence change and share expertise.
    • Strong time management skills and ability to multi-task.
