Manager, Human Resources (Labour Relations focused)

Summary of Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Director, Talent & Culture, responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following: 

  • Provide support and assistance with the day-to-day operation of the Talent & Culture Department, including supporting the implementation of Human Resources strategies
  • Responds to all labour relations matters, including grievances, corrective action, and investigations
  • Act as an internal consultant to provide expert coaching and direction on Talent & Culture policy, programs, employee & labour relations, legislation, employment standards, human rights and compensation
  • Coach leaders on performance management, grievance procedures, corrective action, and career development
  • Promote positive colleague relations through an environment that encourages open communication, trust, mutual respect and fun
  • Assist with implementing the annual Employee Engagement Survey cycle, including planning, executing and strategizing for optimal results
  • Support the Hotel's attendance management program
  • Manage the Hotel’s Time & Attendance systems and provide training where required
  • Support recruitment for the hotel, including recommending, evaluating and executing recruitment and retention strategies
  • Support the immigration process by liaising, where necessary, with immigration lawyers to obtain work authorization for international new hires and transfers
  • Lead new hire orientations where necessary
  • Conduct Discrimination, Harassment & Bullying Prevention Training
  • Execute Accor Hotels training programs and strategies
  • Train leaders on employee relations and labour relations policies and procedures both individually and in group settings
  • Actively support the hotel’s Health & Safety initiatives, accident prevention and disability management programs, including participation on the hotel's Joint Health & Safety Committee
  • Assist with the completion of the annual WorkSafe BC COR Audit to ensure successful results
  • Train, inform and support Talent & Culture colleagues in carrying out their daily responsibilities
  • Ensure the Talent & Culture department complies with all corporate, regional and hotel policies and procedures; and governmental regulations pertaining to all colleagues
  • Be a subject matter expert on company and departmental policies and procedures
  • Lead and/or assist in the organization of staff events such as Summer Party, Anniversary Awards, Kids Christmas Party and Winter Gala
  • Maintain a positive demeanor at all times, even under pressure
  • Consistently offer professional, friendly and engaging service
  • Work well under tight deadlines and time constraints
  • Occasionally work weekends and evenings as needed
  • Complete project work as assigned
  • Perform duties of the Director, Talent & Culture in their absence
  • Assist with all general office administration, reception and other duties as required

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years Human Resources leadership experience in a luxury hotel environment required
  • Previous experience in a Labour Relations environment essential
  • Working knowledge of BC Employment Standards Act and Human Rights code
  • Previous Collective Bargaining experience an asset
  • CPHR designation an asset
  • Knowledge of benefit and payroll administration an asset
  • Familiarity with Canadian immigration system and work permit process
  • Computer literacy in MS Office
  • Degree or Certificate in Human Resources Management or a related discipline is preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and oral) 
  • Strong organizational skills, time management and problem solving abilities
  • Must be highly responsible & reliable
  • Ability to work cohesively as part of a team
  • Ability to focus attention on guest needs, remaining calm and courteous at all times
