Maintenance Operator - Finisher (full time)

Responsible for performing all work necessary to keep the hotel’s wooden furniture, doors, walls and flooring finish in the very highest of condition. To carry out wood finishing duties as required for renovations and remodeling of Guest rooms, offices, public spaces and any space within the hotel and property as directed by the Facilities Manager. To carry out minor repairs and maintenance on the hotels equipment, machinery, building systems within the hotel that relate to "finishing".

Summary of Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Facilities Manager, responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Performs work on all wood finishes in all Public areas to ensure they are in perfect condition.
  • Included but not limited to repairing cracks and holes, stripping, sanding, stain preparation to match existing color, spraying finishing products and clear coat sealers.
  • Performs work on all wood finishes on the guest corridors and in the Guest rooms to ensure they are in perfect condition. This may include but not limited to repairing cracks and holes, stripping, sanding, stain preparation to match existing color, spraying finishing products and clear coat sealers.
  • Prepares all stains required to match the existing color and finish of the refinishing being undertaken.
  • Shall maintain inventories of all consumable materials required for the finishing of the above furniture and wood pieces
  • Must be available for shiftwork including weekends and holidays
  • Performs other related duties as assigned


  • 5 years experience in a similar role
  • Experience with a variety of furniture finishing techniques
  • Knowledge of paints, thinners and work related chemicals
  • Trained in WHMIS and have knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and be able to apply it’s principals to work safely.
  • Excellent guest service and be able to communicate in the English language
  • Must be available for shiftwork including weekends and holidays

Physical Aspects of Position (include but are not limited to):

  • Constant standing and walking throughout shift
  • Frequent lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs
  • Constant kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting
  • Frequent ascending or descending ladders, stairs and ramps
