This internship will allow the successful candidate to better understand the function of a Food & Beverage outlet in a hotel environment.  The position will assist the F&B Manager many functions, as listed in the Summary of Responsibilities below, be given experience in a unionized environment and also complete a project that will help them gain a better understanding of the F&B and hotel industry.

Summary of Responsibilities:

Reporting to the F&B Outlet Manager, responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Demonstrates Fairmont’s Brand Service Standards in all interactions
  • Read, sort and route incoming mail and inter-office documents
  • Maintain and organize, in a professional manner, personal workspace, filing and shared department spaces such as fax, copy and supply rooms
  • Communicate company policies, procedures and processes as applicable
  • Attend training classes to increase knowledge of software programs, company information, time management, or other skills as required
  • Creates, composes, and edits technical and/or administrative correspondence and documentation; screens and evaluates incoming and outgoing correspondence and prepares responses as appropriate
  • Reports to Assistant Director of Food and Beverage, responsible to support and assist the ADFB in his/her daily activities, as well as to ensure the efficient operation of the Food and Beverage Division
  • Handles inter-office and external correspondences
  • Assists the ADFB with projects and company initiatives
  • Maintains the division’s master schedule and vacation log
  • Liaises with F&B departments to assist with special needs
  • Maintains inventory of stationery, collaterals and operating supplies for F&B
  • Handles confidential or classified materials/information while maintaining professional office etiquette and discretion
  • Maintains an organized filing system for the department
  • Supports the F&B Business Manager with all daily and weekly responsibilities, specifically in booking large party contract business for the outlets, holiday reservations, weekly distribution of BEOs and all correspondence with inquiring guests.
  • Assists guests with booking reservations in all F&B areas
  • Handling of sending and receiving guests’ CC information via Secure Pay, and collecting in an orderly form
  • Attending meetings, taking meeting minutes, collating the minutes and circulating them to colleagues concerned when applicable
  • Assists the F&B office team by answering telephone calls
  • Assists with the selling and distributing of all F&B retail items, including communication with guests, acquiring payment information, processing shipping of items to out of town guests, and ensuring payment completion for all sales
  • Manages all new 1907 Club members by ensuring completion of membership registration forms, processing shipping of new cards to members, and assisting with any reservation or inquiry needs
  • Assists all existing 1907 Club members with any reservations or inquiries, concerns or requests, replacing lost/stolen cards and is responsible for tracking card inventory and assists with ordering as necessary
  • Additional duties as assigned by the ADFB

Qualifications:

  • Must currently be enrolled at a university majoring in a hospitality program
  • Proven organizational skills, detailed orientated, and can work well on their own
  • Enthusiastic and positive personality with the ability to build trusting relationships with others
  • Possesses outstanding guest service skills, responsibility, professional presentation and sophisticated communication skills both oral and written
  • Able to multi-task and work under pressure
  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Must have flexible availability

Visa Requirements: Must be legally eligible to work in the US. The hotel is unable to assist candidates in obtaining US work authorization.
