Job description

The Tools & Automation Engineering (TAE) organization plays a central, critical business role across the technology enterprise by connecting, automating and instrumenting technology to enable rapid, accurate and efficient management of data, systems and services. TAE focuses on the product management, architecture, design and engineering. We partner closely with cross-functional Operations Engineering teams for hosting and operational support of the products managed by TAE. We're looking for a seasoned software engineer who can help us leave code in better shape than we found it and apply a new school of thought and practice in our approach to develop robust software solutions that will have high visibility and use within the organization.
ResponsibilitiesYou'll be part of a software development team with modern practices such as team ownership, collaboration, and acceptance test driven development. This role will be, to a lesser extent, a hybrid of software architect, project leader, creating documentation, and respond to customer feedback. We work primarily on software to enable operational/IT automation in Python and Java. The software will typically be web based UI and REST API services that are designed for zero downtime, high availability and simplicity. Other responsibilities may arise within the context of providing a complete solution and a good customer experience. Basic Qualifications
  • 5+ years of software development experience
  • Experience with Python and Java
  • Experience with Multiple Programming Paradigms (OOP, Functional, Procedural, Aspect, etc)
  • Experience with web application development
  • Experience with automated testing, ideally ATDD
  • An understanding of data structures and algorothims
  • Driven to get work done in a timely fashion
  • Open to adaptation and learning
  • Experience with SQL
  • Experience with frontend technology (HTML, javascript)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with metaprogramming
  • Experience with API integration and development
  • Understanding of operations and/or systems engineering
  • Experience developing with Vim/Emacs on a unix cli
  • Familiarity with Agile, Lean, or Kanban
  • Experience with a Unix Command Line Interface
Required Education
  • BS/BA in Computer Science or equivalent experience

The DTSS web operations teams focus on Servers & Hosting and Network Connectivity. DTSS teams are located in Seattle, Bristol, N. Hollywood, Glendale, New York, Burbank, and Orlando.
