PURPOSE OF POSITION


The role of the Corporate Health and Safety Officer is to create, enact, and update job safety programmes for employees that encompass government health and safety regulations as well as company standards for safety in the workplace. In addition, he/she is responsible for training employees on the importance of health and safety on the job and safety procedures. To ensure success as a Corporate Health and Safety Officer, you must stay updated with the latest trends in health and safety, and consistently implement these practices in the workplace. Ultimately, a top-notch Corporate Health and Safety Officer will maintain compliance with all safety regulations and ensure that every member of staff onboard complies with the regulated standards. The successful candidate must have a valid driver’s license and be able to travel extensively (up to 70%) within the target area. In addition, he/she must be willing to be available on-call during unusual business hours.


RESPONSIBILITIES


Implementation on safety measures on Viking River vessels
• Meeting company health and safety goals
• Supports the Corporate Captains with safety training during season start (SST)
• Conduct on regular basis the Viking Safety Taskforce training (VST) onboard
• Leading and training the first officers in keeping company health and safety standards onboard our rivers ships
• Monitoring the onboard weekly Viking Safety Taskforce duty plan, Guest Safety Drill and Maintenance Walk
• Keeping track of all safety checklists and documentation onboard our river ships
• Responsible for training and implementing of Guest Safety Drill (GSD)
• Cooperation with Learning and Development Department and Nautical Trainers reg. design and organization of training activities connected to safety
• Creating safety plans that include suggested improvements to existing infrastructure and business processes
• Keeping on the lookout for any unsafe behavior or breaks in regulations


Safety equipment
• Inspecting safety equipment onboard
• Ordering repairs for unsafe and/or damaged equipment onboard

 

Analytics and communication
• Creating analytical reports of safety data
• Presenting safety principles to office staff in meetings or training sessions
• Sharing information, suggestions, and observations with project leadership to create consistency in safety standards throughout the company
• Reviewing and reporting on the staff's compliance with health and safety rules and recommending commendations
• Assessing risk and possible safety hazards of all aspects of onboard operations


Incident management
• Follow up on incidents onboard
• Support onboard crew after incidents
• Facilitating health checks for crew members involved in incidents
• Investigating causes of accidents and other unsafe conditions
• Suggestions of safety measures that would help prevent incidents in the future
• Liaising with law enforcement and other investigators who are present at the time of a serious accident
• Presenting and discussing feedback with the Director Planning and Compliance


QUALIFICATIONS


• Bachelor’s degree or an associate degree
• Valid competency certificates or certified via Lloyds Maritime Academy or WMO or ISM/IMO or similar
• Registration as a Health and Safety Officer
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in this position
• Owner of all needed certificates and licenses for the responsible operation
• Excellent management, organization and communication skills
• Guest-focused, stress-resistant, calm under pressure, team player and with professional appearance
• Open-minded and flexible with high social and inter-cultural competencies
• Excellent English skills (written & verbal), other languages (French, German) are an advantage, but not a requirement
• Good knowledge of Microsoft 365 package (Sharepoint, Teams, PowerPoint, Outlook)

• Possess advanced computer skills to create presentations, scripts and projects
• Must be able to work independently
• Experience with ISO certification QMS 9001/ SMS 45001 /EMS 14001
