Job description

WDI R&D is responsible for the creative and technical development, as well as application of techniques & technologies that enables new guest experiences. R&D Imagineers wear multiple hats on many projects at any given moment, it reflects the adaptive creative and technical organization, and shepherding the work through R&D and into application. This generally involves definition of the strategic or creative vision, technical requirements, and/or user experience for new R&D projects and may include various elements of creative development, technical application/park & Disney experience. R&D Imagineers constructively disrupt the business and keep 'heads up to solve problems and bring new ideas'.
A software developer who will develop, integrate, and deploy themed interactive experiences and other state-of-the-art creative technologies using robotics and video game engines.
  • Develop an authoring tool framework for creatively scripting interactive experiences.
  • Integrate real time sensing and perception into creative performances.
  • Create software top to bottom, from UI/UX to the underlying data storage systems.
  • Craft autonomous and simulated conversations with humans.
  • Design interactive show structures and data representations.
  • Develop, test, and validate authored experiences on robotic figures and digital displays.
  • Explore agency and the ability for systems to make personality-based decisions.
  • Promote good software development practices, including version control and issue tracking
  • Develop in a cloud-based workflow for software deployment.
Basic Qualifications
  • Proficiency in C++, Python, JavaScript, and other scripting languages.
  • Understanding of UI/UX concepts and ability rapidly iterate.
  • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to any programming language, package, and feature.
  • Proficiency with Docker and virtualization.
  • Knowledge of working with live entertainment or creative interactive experiences
  • Knowledge of integrating with custom hardware devices
  • Basic knowledge of animation tools such as Maya/Motionbuilder
  • Basic knowledge of machine vision, speech classification, perception etc.
  • Basic knowledge of Photoshop/Illustrator and the Adobe Creative Suite
Required Education
  • Undergraduate education and mastery in a creative design or technical field preferred or equivalent experience
Preferred Education
  • Preferred experience: minimum 4 years applicable experience
  • Disney experience preferred
