Job description

Key business leader for ESPN in North Asia. Manage ESPN’s business in North Asia China, Korea and Japan) including identifying and implementing revenue growth opportunities, overseeing program sales, advertising sales, marketing and communications along with the development and execution of localisation initiatives across TV, digital and other platforms. Hire, develop and manage core local teams based in China, Japan and Korea.
Work in conjunction with the Managing Director for ESPN APAC on development and implementation of North Asia strategy. Guide and develop local market strategies and rights acquisition opportunities in conjunction with ESPN International Programming Team. Maintain strong communication with global leadership, regional, LOB colleagues and develop external relationships with the media and associated industries which assist in developing our business in the market.
Lead Relationship Manager for Tencent ensuring ESPN meets and exceeds key deliverables while developing opportunities to further expand the relationship. North Asia digital responsibility including P&L oversight and leadership across all growth initiatives including but not limited to local edition content and product plans.

Responsibilities Drive Revenue Growth
  • Responsible for North Asia P&L. Responsible for planning and hitting targets
  • Inspire and articulate a clear strategy to grow the overall revenue
  • Manage all local revenue generation directly and where applicable via both regional sales teams and local reps which will include oversight of program sales, ad sales, new media and business development

Strategic Oversight
  • Develop and lead execution on all growth initiatives across North Asia.
  • Regional point person for Bristol based counterparts on strategy and deal flow that impacts North Asia markets
  • Regional point person for all collaborations with third parties

  • Provide leadership and strategic direction to teams based in ESPN HQ in Bristol, CT USA who are charged with creating and delivering TV and digital products to local North Asia markets
  • Manage direct reports to translate strategies into specific priorities, objectives and action plans
  • Lead local ESPN initiatives, providing cross LOB leadership and interface with regional and global management
  • Proactively recruit, retain and develop future staff to achieve the goals but also provide development opportunities within our Global organisation.

Marketing Strategies
  • Work with local and internationally based marketing teams to develop clear and consistent marketing strategies to achieve the revenue growth and development of the ESPN brand

Distribution of Programming
  • Develop plans together with ESPN Program Sales Team to ensure distribution of our key programming assets across multiple distribution platforms

Critical Alliances
  • Establish critical external relationships with senior management with affiliates, advertising sales representatives, FTA, telcos and key industry partners in order to drive and develop business opportunities
  • Establish and actively manage key internal alliances and relationships to drive opportunities for

  • Tight management of budgets, FYP with focus on improving operational efficiencies
  • Delivering and reporting KPI’s across brand equity, finance
  • Work closely with ESPN teams to develop local initiatives that fulfil partner requirements, reinforce localisation and deliver on our brand promises

  • Evaluating and using technology to deliver content to consumers

Business Awareness
  • Maintain a constant awareness of customers, including corporate performance, objectives and pressures, Category awareness, performance and activity with competitors
  • Keep up to date on developments and trends within the marketplace
Basic Qualifications
  • First class track record in a senior commercially focused leadership role within consumer-facing, multi-nationals
  • Ideally experienced in the sports, entertainment and / or media sectors
  • Familiarity with the North Asia media sector preferred
  • An effective network of media contacts in the television business
  • Strong understanding of deal structures and media contracts
  • Proven experience of negotiating deals with partners
  • Proven experience of driving projects/campaigns from beginning to end
  • Experience of budget management
  • Evidence of delivering revenue targets
  • Evidence of effective stakeholder management
  • Experience of working in a matrix/cross cultural/media organisation preferred
  • Tertiary qualification or equivalent – in a Business, Marketing, Communications focussed discipline

  • Personally credible and authoritative, able to provide leadership to a small team and to give confidence across the organisation internationally.
  • Good team player with “hands on” approach and personable disposition
