Job Description



Wyndham Hotels & Resorts is now seeking a Staff Accountant to join our team at the Parsippany - 22 Sylvan Way location in Parsippany, New Jersey.

Summary

The Staff Accountant will be responsible for a variety of tasks in support of the WHR Accounting team.  Primary responsibilities will include preparing journal entries in support of the monthly close process, preparing assigned balance sheet accounts reconciliations, the preparation and review of wire requests and routing them for approval,, completing quarterly reporting packages, maintaining monthly internal controls support, assisting with the quarterly external auditor support process, and providing general administrative support for the WHR Finance team.

The candidate should be self-motivated and will be required to independently take action to achieve the organization’s goals.  The candidate should have strong PC skills (including Excel), and strong communication skills (both written and verbal).

Responsibilities

  1. Performing various account reconciliations and managing account reconciliations submitted by satellite offices.
  2. Preparing and uploading journal entries during the month end close.
  3. Assisting with quarterly external audit, annual statutory audits and ad hoc tax requests.
  4. Maintaining the monthly SOX internal controls binder.
  5. Preparing wire requests and routing for approval.
  6. Administrative responsibilities supporting the Accounting team including scheduling meetings and conference calls, submitting expense reports, filing account reconciliations and journal entries, and managing the department document retention process.
  7. Completing quarterly packages for external reporting.
  8. Various ad hoc requests.


Complexity

  • Individual will be responsible for making day to day decisions as it relates to their job function. On technical issues, the individual will work closely with Management to identify and implement the appropriate solution.
  • Individual is self-motivated and shows a willingness to learn in order to achieve the organization’s goals.
  • Decision making can have a positive and/or negative impact on the operating results of the company due to the nature of the position (i.e., Accounting). However, this will be limited due to review processes in place.  
  • No supervisory experience.


Scope/Financial Responsibility

Assist in the preparation and review of WHR financial results through balance sheet and income statement analysis and ensure compliance with internal and external reporting requirements.  

Abilities/Key Competencies/Skills

  1. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  2. Strong attention to detail and commitment to deadlines.
  3. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  4. High level of professionalism.
  5. Strong ability to multi-task, learn quickly, and work well within a diverse team.
  6. Ability to work overtime during reporting periods (i.e., January, April, July, and October) and as needed throughout the year.


Experience/Certificates/Education

  1. College degree required, preferably in Accounting.
  2. 0-2 years’ experience required.


Organizational Relationships

The position will report to the Director, Accounting.
