    I worked at the Courtyard by Marriott Suzhou as an intern during five months. My main responsibilities were dealing with foreign guests at any stage in the hotel as well as helping out at the reception during peak hours.

    I worked during the breakfast as well as dinner service. My duties during breakfast included setting up the buffet, serving hot beverages, cleaning the empty dishes. Once the guests were done with breakfast, I either started preparing the tables for dinner or helped in the back office drying glasses and cutlery. During dinner, I had several assigned tables to take care of and serve their five to six courses meal. As the ski world cup takes place at Lenzerheide, we had two different ski teams (Swiss and Croatian) at our hotel for this period of time. Especially for them we opened the breakfast earlier, which was my responsibility with one other co-worker. Similar to my summer job at the Schaukäserei, I felt there was a lot of trust into me from the manager’s side.

    For the past 5 years I worked every summer for 1 month in this restaurant as a service support during the busy summer time. From the second week on I received my own station with an own wallet. As appropriate, I had several numbers of tables to take care of. This included taking the order as well as bringing the drinks and dishes. From time to time a wedding aperitif took place on the terrace where I was responsible for the guests and their satisfaction. There has always been a lot of trust into me from my manager’s side as I have been asked to create a five-course Christmas dinner for a group of 60 persons. This proposal was then used and I was asked again to just work for that evening in December. This restaurant links with a cheese factory and visitors can have a look at how cheese is made and guided tours are possible. One time I had to, spontaneously, translate the tour into English as the English speaking guide was absent.
