I am a committed, motivated and enthusiastic Masters student from the Oxford Brookes University with strong communication, organisational and team working skills. I am currently looking for a Graduate Scheme in Hotel Operations Management and I am prepared for a challenge.

    In September 2015, I was elected President of the Bacchus Society, the hospitality student society. As figurehead I was responsible for setting goals, managing the executive team and overseeing all activity. My main objective was to create an open and inclusive society and so we actively reached out to members to find their opinion and organised events accordingly. I demonstrated time management skills by scheduling meetings and creating an agenda that I ensured was adhered to. It was also important to demonstrate people management skills and to be approachable to students whilst remaining professional when dealing with alumni or guest speakers to the University. Furthermore, I also looked to create an atmosphere where the committee felt like they could speak up if they thought some thing was going wrong, this helped to create a better team ethic and made people feel valued, ensuring everyone was motivated and made delegating tasks much easier.

    After beginning work at the Strawberry Bank in July 2014 I was keen to learn more about the industry. After a short amount of time I was promoted to Bar Supervisor. I managed a team of bar staff maintaining excellent levels of customer service during busy periods and helping to train new members. This involved listening to people’s problems, whether they be staff problems with rotas or customer problems with food, and finding a resolution. In order to do this I had to multi-task effectively in the high pressure environment.

    Spent the summer of 2015 undertaking work experience with Westbourne Leisure Ltd, a pub and hotel company that owns 55 premises. I gained experience across the business by working with the area manager for the hotel units. I gained a feel for day-to-day operations and was involved in building a standardised service routine. I also spent time shadowing directors of the company in meetings with Coors Ltd in which I gained experience in how to negotiate and communicate effectively.

    Also began work at The Bull at the same time as the Strawberry Bank in order to gain sufficient hours whilst I completed my Bachelors degree, showing I am prepared to work hard. I enjoyed the high levels of customer contact and was commended on my team player mindset, enthusiastic embrace of change and ability to work with minimal supervision in seeking to achieve the company policy of exceeding customer's expectations.

    Began work at 18 as a Bartender in a busy city centre pub. It was a real wet-led pub and I realized there that I enjoyed the interaction and camaraderie you gain with customers in the industry. I also realized how important teamwork was in such a busy establishment. The St Patrick Parade in Birmingham is one of the biggest in the world and the bar would be open for breakfast at 7 and the pub would be jam packed from then till 11 o’clock at night and it was essential that everyone from the management to the bar staff and security were all in constant communication so that service ran smoothly. At the end of the summer of 2010 i was made a Team Leader and was responsible for paying attention to detail in all aspects of the customer experience, taking prompt action to resolve complaints, ensuring cleanliness and building positive relationships with guests to ensure customer satisfaction.
