The Parks and Resorts segment is increasingly faced with demands to reduce cost, grow revenue and deliver faster, in an already complex operating environment; these demands require us to look at innovative ways of operating in order to overcome these challenges. The Lead Project Manager, within Walt Disney Attractions Technology, is a senior level role with the Project Management & Platform team responsible for program level ownership of complex large-scale technology driven projects across a diverse portfolio supporting all aspects of the Parks and Resorts segment. Additionally, this role has responsibility for coaching and mentoring of project management team members at levels from associate to senior. . The Lead Project Manager will be a driving force in the development and growth of the Project Management & Platform team’s influence within our organization with a focus on helping to evolve our use of agile tools and evolve our processes. The ideal candidate is passionate about coaching, development and growth as well as the agile movement and the value that it brings to organizations. ResponsibilitiesRole Overview
  • Plays an active role in building our practice through the mentoring and development of talent.
  • Plays an active role on our journey of agile/lean project management, through skill and knowledge of the project management function, to ensure outcome driven value for our Guests and Cast.
  • Focused on guiding and mentoring of process and practice improvements in the project management environment and serves as a catalyst for project management excellence.
  • May provide leadership and coaching for a small team of project managers.
  • Accomplishes objectives by ensuring compliance with WDAT’s defined project management and delivery methodology with a focus on agile practices in an evolving organization.
  • Collaborates with the Product Owner, stakeholders and teams to create the Charter that defines business objectives / outcomes, success measurements, roadmap with scope and high level release plan with dependencies and risks and a Working Agreement that defines how all will work together as a team, responsibilities, escalation process, and communication.
  • Efficient and effective ceremonies at scrum and scaled scrum levels, ensure planning and re-planning with complete transparency and communication of change, risks, and issues with the goal of removing blockers for the team to be successful. Escalates to leadership promptly to clear the path for the team.
  • Collaborates with Product Owner / business partner to understand and analyze operation and translate to technical needs / user stories to deliver business value
  • Collaborates with project controller to analyze and manage funding.
  • Provides support to project team in planning prioritized back log execution or project plan execution. Collaborates with team to assess project risks and creates mitigation plans.
  • Manages change, works with the Product Owner and team to prioritize the work, reprioritizing within the defined outcomes, assess impact and communicate with leadership, and appropriate stakeholders for change approval.
  • Quality is built into the process, adheres to quality and compliance standards and procedures.
  • Brings knowledge and proven experience in the technology field and project delivery, in order to inspire, motivate and lead a team to develop and produce quality technical solutions.
Project/Product Delivery
  • Confidently leads and directs cross functional project teams through high-priority, complex projects, which often require considerable resources and high levels of functional integration and interaction with project sponsor team.
  • Create full-scale master program and project schedules and communication plans consisting of multiple projects or components.
  • Ensure proactive scheduling of key deliverables, milestones and deliverable tasks
  • Establish program and project financial forecasts including resource plans and other expense plans
  • Develop the program and project plans and schedules with cross discipline functional leads
  • Hands on leadership guiding teams to think Lean and be Agile.
  • Foster a team environment of self-organization, retrospect to learn and adapt with the goal of delivering the highest value to our guests and cast.
  • Sponsors process and practice improvements in the project management environment and serves as a catalyst for project management excellence.
  • Lead with an inclusive leadership style that embraces diversity, and will allow team members to successfully operate in a highly matrix organizational system where partnership and influence are key drivers of success.
Basic Qualifications
  • 5 to 10 years of relevant work experience in program and project management, in a cross-functional technical software delivery capacity with a focus on Agile delivery and Agile delivery tools such as VersionOne, Jira, etc..
  • Proven knowledge and experienced in the technology field and technology project delivery.
  • Proven experience as a leader and decision maker with at least 4 years of experience in leading large, multidisciplinary efforts across a large scale matrix organization.
  • Proven program level experience in leading complex projects or multi-threaded efforts.
  • Proven facilitator that can lead project meetings and large workshops driving commitments, accountability, and deliverables.
  • Demonstrated exceptional critical thinking, strategic planning, and process management skills.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and managing software development project plans.
  • Demonstrated experience with software development lifecycle methodologies (focused on Agile, Lean).
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and problem solving skills to achieve business results
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills and the ability to work effectively across a wide range of constituencies in a diverse corporate and client environment.
  • Proven ability to deliver projects on time and on budget while communicating with key senior leaders.
  • Ability to inspire, motivate and lead a team to produce quality work.
  • Demonstrated inclusive leadership that embraces diversity.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to executive leadership in both business and technology roles.
  • Excellent organizational, communication and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop teams, mentor staff.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in supporting travel trade, hospitality, and/or large scale businesses and logistics systems.
  • Agile certifications, i.e. ACP, CSM.
Required Education
Minimum college/undergraduate degree (e.g., B.S. /B.A.) and/or equivalent experience.
Preferred Education
  • Bachelors in a technology/engineering field
  • Project Management Professional (PMP, ACP) ® credential
  • Proficiency with Enterprise Project Portfolio Management tools
