Jumeirah Messilah Beach Hotel and Spa offers easy access to Kuwait’s Central Business District, airport and major attractions. The beachfront resort features 316 rooms and suites, 80 residential suites and 12 villas, seven restaurants, cafés and lounges, a Talise Spa, 200-metre private beach, two swimming pools and a children’s play area. Extensive conference and banqueting facilities are available, including the Badriah ballroom.
 
About the Role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Coordinator to join Jumeirah Messilah Beach Hotel & Spa, Kuwait to ensure that high standards of health, safety and environment are maintained and appropriate improved, and contribute to the achievement of the Jumeirah HSE strategy by planning, scheduling, coordinating and controlling the activities of the hotel, providing quality and timely advice to the Management.
 
The main duties and responsibilities of this role are: 
  • In cooperation with the Group HSE function, assist with the development, implementation and continuous improvement of the HSE management system, programs and processes.
  • Co-ordinate and oversee the implementation of Health, Safety and Environment within the respective SBU.
  • Conduct Risk Assessment periodically and ensure identified risks are managed and controlled.
  • Monitor trends and recommend pro-active action plans to remedy potential problems.
  • Facilitate, investigate and analyze incidents/accidents and make sure lessons learned are shared and communicated to the concern parties, verify the continuing implementation and effectiveness of the Operations with regards to HSE.
  • Implement and manage Near-Miss reporting and other Hazard Identification programs.
  • Review, assist and coordinate all Fire, Life Safety procedures in conjunction with Security & Technical Support departments.
  • Monitor and ensure Health and Safety related equipment are compliant to local legislation and international standards, and have the required maintenance and third party certification.
  • Manage and coordinate HSE Audit, third party visits related to HSE. This will include visits by the authorities, authorized insurance companies and consultants, ensure all HSE activities are in accordance with the local legislation and Jumeirah Standards, generate projects aimed at the continuous improvement of HSE performance of the SBU’s Operations.
  • Manage and ensure the HSE yearly strategy is implemented by all departments, liaise with HODs to ensure that HSEMS, programs and initiatives meet Jumeirah HSE standards.
  • Produce monthly HSE reports and identify trends and occurrences.
  • Communicate information to relevant parties such as the Executive Committee, Group HSE and insurers.
  • Ensure monthly Executive summary is updated and sent with regards to any HSE related matters.
  • Inspect large function venues to ensure that it falls within the HSE guidelines, including the food hygiene and Fire and Safety.
  • Observe and report on emergency procedures, drills, practices, etc.
  • Communicate frequently with management to report on the status of health and safety, environment.
  • Examine Health & Safety related documentation and records to ensure compliance with regulations, standards and good practice.
  • Check the plans, set up and operations of functions/events taking place both within & outside SBUs.
  • Generally check compliance with Food Hygiene & Safety procedures and appropriate legislation/regulations, Jumeirah standards and international good practice.
  • As required, meet and liaise with enforcement officers and other officials from external organizations.
  • Carry out other functions or activity as directed by the Management.
About You:
 
The ideal candidate for this position will have the following experience and qualifications: 
  • Graduate or Diploma in occupational safety and health or environment.
  • At least 2 - 3 years’ experience in HSE field ideally within the hospitality sector in a 5* luxury hotel or resort.
  • Experience working in the Middle East.
  • Good knowledge of local and international legislation, standards and best practices.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to interact with different groups of diverse needs and requirements in a motivational manner.
  • Personality that conveys poise and credibility with high levels of convincing and influencing skills to gain SBU Senior Management’s trust and respect shows strong initiative and able to work autonomously with regular communication to Group HSE.
  • Fluency in English, both spoken and written.
  • Practical “hands-on” experience in managing an HSE management system having delivered best in class HSE results within a company.
  • Proven ability to use Microsoft office program in an office setting such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Good presentation skills .
  • Applies good judgment and can act according to Jumeirah Group standards of ethics and integrity.
  • Knowledge of any other language is an advantage.
