About The Role

As a Commercial Manager you’ll act as key business partner, championing commercial awareness within the hotel, planning and executing commercial strategy with an emphasis on revenue, sales and marketing and will lead your team to deliver on our mission to be the most hospitable company in the world.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Commercial Focus

  • Assist in the formulation of the Revenue Plans for the Hotel in conjunction with the General Manager and RMCC.
  • Build a strong and productive relationship with RMCC, being in constant contact with them in an effort to mutually understand the market, drive rate and occupancy.
  • Achieve RGI targets through pro-active management of rate and occupancy.
  • Set the targeted accounts for the team and self and is “hands on” visiting clients, entertaining and always looking for new business in rooms and catering through well -developed market and industry research and competitive shopping initiatives.
  • Develop sales action plans which accurately interpret the objectives of the business for all market segments for yourself and your direct reports namely Corporate, Leisure and MICE.
  • Take responsibility for reviewing and reporting at month end on revenue streams and ensuring accurate forecasting as required.
  • Execute daily and weekly sales meetings with your team to plan future activities and to highlight successes and best practice.
  • Develop and solicit a top account list segmented into A, B and C account categories with defined solicitation strategies for your team.  This will cover Corporate, Leisure and MICE accounts.
  • Target and convert accounts from the competition.
  • When requested, assist in closing sales on, or arranging contact details with, specific accounts.
  • Monitor competitive hotel sales strategies and promotions and communicate this information to the hotels.
  • In conjunction with Marketing, develop sales, marketing and promotional opportunities internally and with industry partners.
  • Report progress to the General Manager on a regular basis. This will include updating the preceding month’s sales activities.
  • Ensure that the hotel is represented at relevant industry networking functions and where appropriate ensure membership of any business related organisations.
  • Take personal responsibility for specific accounts in partnership and as support to your team members as required.
  • Accurately identifying the level of influence and decision-making power of contacts in the customer organisation and use these to secure business.
  • Contribute ideas / initiatives to support field account management to further develop business.
  • Work with RMCC, Sales and Event Sales to manage the conversion of business and to maximize yield.
  • Review customer base to determine new opportunities for account penetration.
  • Ensure that all team members are actively using Delphi and entering pertinent and correct information on a regular basis and review on a regular basis to determine new opportunities and BBOB.
  • Actively promote the services and facilities of the hotel to all customers and guests and cross sell the other Hiltons within the Australasian family of brands when appropriate.

  • Lead the Sales Team to achieve and surpass their annual revenue targets, by great leadership.
  • Identify “high potential” team members and champion their learning and development for future roles within the company.
  • Review and evaluate the performance of the team, ensuring that Career Development Plans are in place for all team members. Develop well trained team members at all levels and encourage advancement for those qualified and interested in career development.
  • Be aware of the results of the annual GTMS (Global Team Member Survey) and take action to improve each year. 
  • Be a role model and act diligently with due care for the health and safety for yourself and others – Team Members and Guests.
  • Actively encourage communication in your department and take responsibility for your own personal development.  Encourage open and honest feedback. 
  • Develop team and individual skills and performance to the highest possible level
    • Ensure regular communication meetings are held within the Commercial Team.
    • Implement a training plan within Commercial to develop all personnel to their full potential
    • Ensure the Job Skills Checklist (JSC) is followed for all new Sales team members
    • Ensure training records are kept updated and planned training completed
    • Ensure annual appraisals are conducted with all team members as means of motivation and development
    • Actively develop team members’ skills and performance through coaching and training
  • Ensure communications between Commercial and all other areas of the hotel are professional, efficient and thorough.
  • Be active as a senior member of the Hotel’s HOD Leadership Team assisting in driving the primary goals, vision, the hotel’s annual targets and key projects.

THE PERSON – QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Passionate, innovative with excellent attention to detail.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to be involved and interact with the overall Hilton team both at an individual and team level.
  • Minimum 12 months experience in a similar role.
  • Fluent in the English language in order to communicate professionally with guests and team members, both in person and over the telephone.
  • Committed to personal development.
  • Competent in use of computers & IT systems. Previous experience with a property sales management system preferred.
  • Good organisation, future planning and time management skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team to achieve goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve problems and conflict.
