About the Job

Lead, Design & Production:

CHANEL is looking for a Lead, Design & Production to join our Visual Merchandising Team in New York. You will play a leading role in designing and overseeing production of window and event décor. This role interfaces with external vendors and is a key partner for the US Visual Merchandising Leadership team and Paris Image Team. Our ideal candidate will have 6+ years of experience, a passion for fast paced work with an eye for detail.  An in-depth appreciation for the process to move projects from design to production is key to your success.  Ability to successfully communicate to various audiences is integral in this role.

What impact you can create at CHANEL:

As the Lead, Design & Production, your impact is two-fold. Your design expertise will impact the creation of new and innovative design ideas to meet the needs of the business including: window rollouts, animations, and event design. Your in-depth production knowledge and experience will impact the oversight and decision making to realize high quality, cost effective projects and installations on time.   

Coordinate all aspects of a project from Design through to Production utilizing project management skills:


  • Generate design drawings for global approval and feedback
  • Strong aesthetic sensibility to protect the brand image
  • Understanding the impact of design decisions on cost, timeline, and installation complexity

Project Management & Communication:

  • Ability to create timelines & manage production calendar for multiple jobs at once
  • Ability to effectively communicate to external vendors, internal partners, and global team
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills to create décor guidelines and local market communication for execution
  • Strong understanding of sense of urgency/ works well with limited turnaround time


  • Ability to oversee external vendors to manage production
  • Deep understanding of construction techniques, fabrication methods and materials required
  • Oversee sample creation of specialty finishes and processes with external vendors
  • Communicate key aspects of approved designs to production vendors
  • Ability to read and red line shop/production drawings required
  • Ability to problem solve to ensure local production meets global expectations
  • Ability to track costs, manage budgets and process invoices for payment

What you will bring to the team:

  • Drawing Skills:
    • Expertise in 3-d Drawing to scale (Advanced Sketch Up Skills required)
    • 2-d Drawing to scale (AI, SKP required)
    • Proficient in Adobe Suite (AI, PSD and INDD require)
  • Awareness of Sustainability, Sustainable materials, afterlife, and recycling a plus
  • Strong organizational skills in project management
  • Self-motivated, team player, strong at collaborative working relationships
  • Self-motivated independent time manager, ability to prioritize workload
  • In depth knowledge of construction techniques required
  • Critical Thinking and Problem-solving mindset
  • Detail & Process oriented

Position Logistics:

  • Minimum of 4-6 years in Retail Design, Visual Merchandising Design or Set Design
  • Degree in Architecture, Industrial, Furniture or Product Design
  • Must be able to lift 35 lbs.
  • Position is based in NY
  • Some travel required to support projects (5-10 trips annually)
  • Weekend and Overnight Work required (30 -40 overnights annually)
