Job Requirements

An award winning, 178 room hotel, is looking for a person responsible for the total sales and marketing efforts of the hotel. The position is responsible for leading, developing and implementing the property sales and marketing plan. Primary job responsibilities generally fall into the following categories: sales and marketing, guest services, profit management and human resource management. Assists other departments when needed and performs other related duties as assigned.

Work Experience

Sales and Marketing Management:

  1. Develops customized sales and marketing plans for the hotel. The position leads the implementation of the plans for the property. The plans are based on RMC-approved policies and strategies, particularly aspects of the market and demand segments.
  2. Assures that marketing and sales plans are appropriate for each sales period, including special plans to maximize room revenue during forecasted low occupancy periods.
  3. Develops and implements advertising, public relations, and promotional programs.
  4. Knows key accounts and actively sells through personal visits and regular contact with these accounts and their decision-makers.
  5. Understands the local hotel market - strengths and weaknesses of the competition. Uses this knowledge when presenting information to decision-makers.
  6. Familiar with the successful practices of competitors and recommends strategies or sales tactics designed to grow revenue and manage expenses.
  7. Identifies and actively solicits new accounts for the hotel. Ensures effective and on-going Hit List pursuit strategies are in place.
  8. Documents all sales calls and other sales activities using sales data base system. This includes Market Planner, Market Segment Activity planner, Weekly Sales report, Web-sites etc.
  9. Markets opportunities on property’s web site and on electronic distribution channels, including GDS and internet travel sites.
  10. Actively leads all hotel sales and marketing activities.
  11. Ensures that all sales information is communicated to all departments.


Guest Service:

  1. Personally demonstrates a commitment to guest service by responding to guest needs and concerns; be committed to making every guest satisfied.
  2. Empowers Sales team to deliver guest service by encouraging and rewarding responsive guest assistance.
  3. Assures that Sales team knows all components and features of the company's guest service guarantee.
  4. Ensures hotel standards and services contribute to the delivery of consistent guest service.


Profit Management:

  1. Responsible for the development and control of the Sales team budget and operating costs.
  2. Demonstrates working knowledge in the use of Revenue Maximization programs. Assists the General Manager with establishing and carrying out revenue maximization strategies.
  3. Accurately forecasts occupancy changes based on changing market conditions (e.g., increased competition).


Human Resources Management:

  1. Assists with the management of human resources functions including recruitment, selection, orientation, training, retention, performance planning and evaluation, termination and the administration of pay and reward programs.
  2. Maintains a positive, cooperative work environment between Sales team and all other teammates.
  3. Administers personnel policies fairly and consistently.
  4. Assists with training teammates on understanding policies, pay procedures, and benefits.
  5. Conducts Sales team meetings.


Essential Skills and experience:

  8. Knowledgeable on developments in the sales and / or hospitality field
  9. Minimum of 2 years of hotel sales experience
  10. High School education or equivalent
  11. Technical skills preferred – Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, sales-tracking software and experience with hotel reservation systems.


Working Relationships:         

  1. Leads and supervises the Sales team.
  2. Interacts with all other property team members, including other departments throughout the hotel.
  3. Reports to General Manager
