We are LEGOLAND California Resort - the place where FUN is built and memories are made. Across our Resort we have two fantastic LEGO themed Hotels, a Water Park, a SEA LIFE Aquarium, more than 60 rides and attractions, 20 food and beverage locations, and 14 retail stores – the opportunities here are endless!

 Scope of Job:                                     

  1. To design, develop, deploy and assess inspection procedures and overall operating work practices, with special attention to maintaining rides and attractions by Rides Maintenance department.
  2. Responsible for directing the development of procedures that identify the procedures and practices regarding the operation of rides and attractions. They work directly with Rides Maintenance management to ensure their teams receive the necessary procedures and equipment to complete their safely.
  3. Assesses the application of Merlin and local regulatory requirements, identifying gaps and developing action plans to address areas of non-compliance.
  4. Facilitates the training and compliance with internal policies and guidance documents for specific operating departments responsible for ride and attraction operation.
  5. Evaluates the effectiveness and content of training material regarding ride and attraction operation to ensure it is consistent, compliant to established programs and procedures and provides updates as required.
  6. Reviews all recordkeeping programs to ensure compliance with local and company requirements.
  7. Regularly provides reporting to management to identify inspection schedules and completion rates, trends in effective training and identifies areas for improvements and changes as needed to management.
  8. Provides immediate performance feedback, including corrective action where necessary, regarding the application of safety procedures and policies to Model Citizens while observing their work performance.


 Key Objectives:                    

1.    Develops and implements procedures and standards for existing activities and any new operations within the Rides Maintenance and Technical Services Team, with special emphasis with ride and attraction maintenance.

2.    Supervises the planning, coordination and completion of ride maintenance and ride operation training as it relates to updated procedures, recertification and new initiatives.

3.    Develops an assessment program to review existing operations and inspection procedures, identifying areas and work procedures that are within compliance of internal and local regulations, identifying areas needing improvement and updates to become compliant.

4.    Conducts audits of maintenance activities to ensure compliance with internal and local requirements, manufacturer manuals and third party recommendations.

5.    Creates work procedures ride and attraction inspection and operation for Technical Services to meet the requirements established by internal and local regulations, audit findings and manufacturer requirements.

6.    Influences the creation and development of training materials that will be used to deliver consistent, thorough and compliant training applicable to the programs, procedures and work practices developed.

7.    Participates in audits and additional third party inspections of rides and attractions, escorting inspectors and arranging for the documentation and demonstrations required to be reviewed. Responsible for monitoring discrepancies identified during the inspection and ensuring their completion within the specified time frame.

8.    Participates in the development of ride modifications and new ride openings, overseeing the installation and verification of the changes, preparing the site, all required procedures and documentation for third party inspection.

9. Supports the implementation and completion of Merlin policies and guidance documents, as they relate to ride and attraction maintenance, inspection and troubleshooting, verifying actions and milestones are completed on time and ensuring compliance between all created procedures and requirements.

10. Develops an audit program to uphold existing standards and programs for ride and attraction maintenance and operations across the resort, including the development of the self-audit program. Supports the completion of the audit program where needed.

11. Supports the creation, establishment, work application and recordkeeping of local and state requirements for general health and safety training and industry compliance requirements.

12. Enforces the application of safety procedures and practices ensuring employees are following the resort safety standards during their job duties.

 Main Responsibilities:

 

1.  Operations & Training

  1. Acts as the overseer of ride and attraction operating procedures and work practices, developing Codes of Safe Working Practices (CoSWP) and other required documents for compliance to O&M manuals, company and industry standards.
  2. Establishes the training program for the training of Rides Maintenance and Technical Services, with special emphasis to maintenance of rides and attractions, ensuring compliance with Merlin and local guidelines for training delivery and documentation, and monitors the completion of training for all applicable teams.
  3. Partners with subject matter experts to establish the key objectives, learning outcomes, training records and assessment tools for the training programs currently established and/or those newly required.
  4. Identifies training gaps based on incident reports, safety violations or newly developed or updated department policies and creates training content, supporting material to train trainers or facilitates training to Ride Maintenance or Technical Services teams.
  5. Involved with Technical Services to ensure continual tracking process of training, safety audits and inspections compliance.
  6. Works with manufacturers on an ongoing basis to ensure that safety policies, procedures, and manuals are updated and accurate, requesting updates and clarification as needed. Periodically verifies that requirements provided by the manufacturer are implemented and completed according to all inspection programs.
  7. Verifies the local authority requirements for supporting work safety programs (ex. Working at Height, Confined Space, Lifting, etc) are appropriately established in work practices for Rides Maintenance, and Technical Services where applicable.

  9. Supports the updates of risk assessments and safety audits on an ongoing basis while driving action items to ensure safety and compliance.


10. Authorized to make immediate corrective action, without the Model Citizen’s direct supervisor, based on employee performance of safety procedures and resort policies.

11. Ensure potential health and safety hazards are addressed as quickly as possible and reported as necessary.

 

 

2.  Compliance & Auditing

  1. The point of contact for onsite audits and inspections of rides and attractions, particularly DOSH and DEH, escorting auditors and arranging for the activities and documentation required to be reviewed.
  2. Performs analysis against CCR requirements for amusement rides and completes action plan to ensure updates, revisions and work procedures are in place to ensure compliance to the regulatory requirements.
  3. Verifies the completion of planned preventative and reactive maintenance inspection program by competent persons, providing frequent reporting analysis of training qualification and job completion. Reviews the records of completed reactive maintenance according to expected procedures and safe operating standards.
  4. Completes, or causes to be complete, the internal audit program requirements on ride preventative and reactive maintenance, specifically for Ride Maintenance teams.
  5. Oversees the completion of statutory inspections required by local standards and internal HSS requirements, verifying inspections are recorded and completed by certified personnel.
  6. Inspects and verifies work safety procedures and programs, such as LOTO, Permit to Work and other safety management protocols are followed correctly.
  7. Responsible for the completion of actions identified as a result of audits, ensuring their completion by the date assigned.
  8. Completes investigations and formal reports, acting as lead investigator, following an incident within the Ride Maintenance department, establishing root cause and further controls to be incorporated as a result, as assigned.


9.    Evaluates the effectiveness and content of training material and the delivery of training by trainers to ensure it is consistent, compliant to established programs and procedures and provides updates as required.

10. Conducts inspections and audits to monitor the effectiveness of the developed health and safety programs and procedures.

11. Regularly identifies areas of improvement and reports to management, providing solutions to establish future program applications.

 

 

3. Marketing

Works with the Compliance Management team to implement and support strategies in order to market Safety Prevention & Compliance Communications internally. Responsible for establishing safe procedures for access and collection of photo, video and other advertising material. Carries out projects as assigned to engage resort participation .

4.  Financial

Works with the Compliance and Technical Services Management team to focus on guest and employee injury prevention specifically as it relates to claims, property damage and preventable loss.

5.  Development

Works with Rides Maintenance, Operations and Health & Safety in all departments to develop and implement safety and compliance programs as ongoing development for employees at all levels. Creates documentation to record and use as a reference during training. This documentation can include can include safe working procedures, inspection records and resources, information references and documents, training plans, learning objectives, training resources and materials, presentations and training records.

6.  People

Responsible for adhering to policies and procedures, and effectively providing training and communication to employees to promote adherence by to the same.

7.  Health & Safety:

Managers/supervisors are responsible for all aspects of Health, Safety & Security within their team, in line with the Group Policy (HS001). In particular, they must ensure that risk assessments have been carried out, that safe working procedures are in place for all work activities and that all employees in their teams are aware of the Group Health, Safety and Security Policy and their obligations under it. They must ensure that safe working practices are monitored and that risk assessments and procedures are reviewed regularly. Where incidents do occur, they must ensure that they are investigated appropriately and that where necessary, corrective action is taken to ensure that such incidents are not repeated.

Employees are responsible for the safety of themselves, their colleagues and guests (where appropriate), in line with the Group Policy (HS001) and the law. In particular, they must ensure that they follow safe working procedures for all work activities that they undertake and they must not use any tools or equipment for which they have not been trained.  Where incidents do occur, they must ensure that they are reported to their line manager and must cooperate with any investigation as appropriate.

Support of the inspection and maintenance program of rides by the local team, as well as third party inspection bodies, are in compliance to Group Engineering policies.

8. Other

Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Background and Experience:

2-3 years experience in a position responsible for ride and attraction operational procedures.

Working knowledge of relevant ride and attraction standards and regulations, including OSHA, DOSH, ASTM, etc. 

Able to articulate technical knowledge and information with clarity and detail, while relating to both a technical and non-technical audience.

Experience with procedural and/or technical writing and ability to communicate procedures and processes with written materials. 

Experience in delivering technical training preferred, specifically relating to ride and attraction operation, maintenance and inspection.

Proven written and oral communication skills with the ability to articulate working processes to a range of people so as to influence others.  

Able to handle multiple projects and quick to adapt and take on new initiatives. 

Proven record of identifying areas of improvement, identifying action plans and implementing change to influence a compliant, safe or enhanced work environment, product or work area.

Ability to analyse and identify root causes with ability to propose effective solutions.

Education

Degree level of education is preferred.

OSHA 30 hour training required.

Involvement in amusement ride industry organizations preferred.

 

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to sit for sustained periods of time to attend on-site and off-site meetings, perform paperwork activities, travel and drive.
  • Intermittent and prolonged standing and walking to move about the resort site, and interact with employees and third parties.
  • Finger dexterity sufficient to complete paperwork activities and to use a computer.
  • Visual acuity sufficient to read written materials, to complete paperwork activities, and to drive.
  • Hearing sufficient to communicate with individuals in person and by telephone.


Work Environment:

Various inside and outside locations with varying temperatures and floor surfaces.

Other Job Requirements:

  • Must be willing to work flexible hours, including evenings, holidays, and weekends to support resort operations.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, safe driving record and be willing to utilize own vehicle for business purposes.
