The Insurance Department is responsible for designing and marketing Marriott’s insurance programs and negotiating pricing and terms within various coverage lines.  The department also reviews most legal agreements to limit the Company’s exposure to loss and assure regulatory and contractual compliance including policies procured by vendors, Owners and Franchisees.  The team maintains broker, insurer and loss adjusting relations and serves as a resource to internal business stakeholders on higher risk activities, insurance and matters across the business.
 
As a member of the global insurance team, the Senior Analyst, supports the Insurance Department within the Asia-Pacific Continent with day to day operational elements of Marriott’s international liability Insurance programs, including China and India insurance placements.  The position supports the Director, Asia-Pacific Insurance, as well as the Manager, Asia-Pacific Insurance in the underwriting and data collection for insurance program placements, as well as review and analysis of contractual insurance provisions.  The position has primary responsibilities for the review of business case analyses (BCAs) and any necessary communication with hotels.  Lastly, the Senior Analyst position assists in monitoring insurance compliance for new international hotel openings and confirm insurance coverage.  The position requires a detail-oriented person, fluent in Mandarin with excellent written, analytical, and verbal communication skills, as well as a demonstrated commitment to the risk management discipline.
 
The position reports directly to the Director, Asia-Pacific Insurance (located in Beijing, China) on a direct line basis for technical day-to-day responsibilities and strategic risk management direction.  The position does not supervise anyone.

Expected Contributions

 

The Senior Analyst position interacts with Marriott’s hotel operations, development, hotel owners, corporate staff/management, insurance brokers, insurers, and outside vendors.  The position will be expected to manage one’s workload with limited direction in order to provide necessary development and operational support to the continent. 

 

The position includes the following essential duties:

 

Property and Casualty Insurance Placement & Support

 

·       Support property and casualty insurance program, including development of contractual risk transfer strategies while maintaining positive relationships with insurers and brokers providing services to the Continent.

·       Support broker network with timely issuance of invoicing, policies and hotel coverage briefs 

·       Develop and administer premium allocation process for all insurance programs serving Continent

·       Support the general liability program placed on behalf of Continent to include development of renewal market strategy, underwriting data collection negotiating pricing & terms, loss & actuarial analysis, and integration of new properties & acquisitions.

·       Support integration of insurance programs for Starwood Hotels

·       Assist Risk Finance Department & regional broker in analysis and administration of premium allocation for Continent as part of casualty insurance program

·       Monitor insurance markets to maintain program competitiveness.

·       Interface with Global Safety & Security to identify and define risk mitigation or loss trend strategies

·       Assist in development and delivery of semi-annual stewardship reports to continent leadership

 

 

Contract & Development Support   Support Company’s Asia-Pacific hotel development group with consult, review, and/or drafting of appropriate contractual insurance provisions.

·       Support Continent operations through negotiation and manuscription of contractual insurance and indemnity provisions for Franchise and Management Agreements   

·       Support vendor/concessionaire liability programs, including negotiating local pricing & terms, as well as marketing and advocacy of company’s global vendor program on continent basis

·       Interpret and explain coverage and/or potential risks to internal and external developers, owners, or business partners

·       Support development with completion of Feasibility quotations

·       Administer insurance pipeline schedule and maintenance to ensure continuity of coverage

 

 

Hotel Operations Support

 

·       Manage analysis and review of Business Case Analyses (BCA) in partnership with Global Safety & Security Dept. representative.

·       Manage the review of new hotel Owners’ insurance coverages for proper compliance with management or franchise agreements.

·       Support existing hotel insurance compliance tracking process 

·       Support Hotels with day-to-day insurance and coverage questions from hotels

·       Support SPG Integration data collection process

·       Support hotels with management of department risk management information system & Riskonnect (Vault) access

·       Create and provide insurance training support to Hotels and continent operations

·       Conduct special projects as needed.

·       Organize & develop training seminars, workshops, presentations and/or summaries for internal and external purposes

·       Conduct training for peer departments (Law, Development, Global Design) on insurance provisions within legal agreements.

·       Support hotels with questions regarding hotel owners operators insurance programs (HOOP)

·       Conduct competitor and industry benchmarking analysis

 

 

 

CANDIDATE PROFILE

·       Assist in responding to brokers, Director of Finance, and Owners regarding the continent’s property and casualty insurance programs.

·       Ability to multi task and manage competing priorities.

·       Responds to, solves, and makes decisions on more complex/non-routine business requests with moderate to high risk.

·       Monitor insurance markets to maintain program competitiveness

·       Meet with hotel management, hotel owners, and hotel asset managers as necessary

           

Job Qualifications

 

·       Minimum of five (5) years of corporate risk management, insurance underwriting, or insurance broker experience, with lodging or related industry preferred.

·       Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Risk Management, or related field

·       Fluent Mandarin speaking required

·       Experience with foreign multinational operations a plus

·       Excellent written and verbal communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.

·       Ability to work in a consulting capacity with other departments and customers

·       Excellent analytical skills and ability to identify trends

·       Strong interpersonal skills to influence and communicate effectively with insurance and non-insurance professionals

·       Demonstrated proficiency of Microsoft Office 365, including Excel, MS Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint

·       Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
