Job Description

ESPN is seeking a Tech Lead to join the Platform Engineering team, who will be responsible for implementing and supporting back end platforms and services that power various editions of, and other web sites owned by ESPN. You will help build systems that will deliver near real time sports content to millions of fans all over the world.

  • Design, develop and maintain software platforms and services
  • Create and maintain accurate documentation and adhere to coding standards
  • Work both individually and in a team environment to achieve results in a deadline driven environment.
  • Interface with and coordinate with teams across multiple global regions and time zones.
  • Contribute to an on-call rotation and resolve reported bugs
Basic Qualifications
  • BE/BS/MCA/MS in Computer Science, Engineering or related technical degree
  • 8 -10 years’ experience
Preferred Qualifications
Required Education
  • Excellent knowledge of Core Java and Object Oriented Programming
  • Good working knowledge of
    • Spring Ecosystem (IOC concepts, Spring Boot, Spring Data)
    • REST style web services and JSON
    • Deploying and maintaining services in a Linux/Windows environment
    • RDBMS
    • Testing frameworks like JUnit
  • Strong understanding of server side software scalability, performance and reliability
  • Basics of distributed computing (CAP theorem, ACID/BASE properties)
  • Experience in agile software development
  • Must demonstrate solid organization/communication skills
Preferred Education
  • Some of the following technologies
    • NoSQL (Mongo DB would be a plus)
    • AWS (EC2, RDB, Monitoring)
    • Application containers (Docker)
    • Confluent Kafka/Zookeeper Stack
  • Must be a self-starter who can drive projects forward with minimal management oversight
  • Knowledge of Cricket, Rugby, Formula1, Soccer and sports in general a plus
  • Experience in Apache HTTPD server configuration and Perl programming
