General Responsibilities:

The Occupational Abilities & Wellness Manager is responsible for championing the disability management and wellness initiatives at Fairmont Hotel Vancouver. The successful candidate will lead the day-to-day operation of disability, benefits and wellness and will be the front-line contact for all colleagues, leaders, union representatives, third party providers and physicians. The successful candidate is accountable for promoting return to work efforts, early identification of disability claims, developing modified and/or alternate work opportunities to mitigate absences due to occupational and non-occupational injury and/or illness, as well as overseeing the benefits function of the hotel. In conjunction with the Director, Talent & Culture, the Occupational Abilities Manager will also assist with the strategic and day-to-day operations of Talent & Culture Office to ensure Fairmont Hotel Vancouver is the best place to work for all of our colleagues.

 
RESPONSIBILITIES :
 
  • Maintains a high level of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality in all aspects of job performance in accordance with our Code of Ethics and Talent & Culture Policies, Procedures and Standards.
  • Administers and manages disability claims related to worker’s compensation, non-occupational short-term and long-term claims and appeals, with the objective of addressing or aiding in resolution, including early return to work and cost containment.
  • Champions the Hotel’s Attendance and Wellness Program including facilitation of return to work initiatives, duty to accommodate responsibilities and wellness initiatives.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of Wellness, Health & Safety programs and responses.  Implements corrective action and training to positively impact statistical trends related to absenteeism and work-related accidents, injuries and illnesses.
  • Develops and analyses metrics related to absenteeism and  workplace injury trends.  Communicates statistics to managers and provides recommendations.
  • Monitors complex employee absences and periodic review of employee’s accommodation needs to ensure fitness to work status is current.
  • Works together with managers to identify accommodation opportunities and ensuring involvement of all stakeholders.
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge and understanding of all related policies, procedures, standards and guidelines and industry disability management best-practices. Remains current with changes in legislation and regulations that affect the organization.
  • Provides leadership, training and assistance for workplace Wellness, Safety & Awareness programs.
  • Trains managers and other hotel employees on Wellness, Health & Safety policies, procedures and standards.  Holds managers and hotel employees accountable to the same.
  • Chairperson of hotel committees including Co-chair of Health & Safety, with the responsibility of organizing hotel wellness initiatives and preparation for annual COR Audit.
  • With the assistance of the Talent & Culture Coordinator, manages the benefit function including administration of the Group Benefit Plan, Pension Plan, Employee Assistance Program, RRSP plans and BC Medical, responds to employee questions and requests, and facilitates benefit educational sessions.
  • Prepares monthly departmental reports, including benefit premiums and usage, and other Talent & Culture reports as required.
  • Adheres to and promotes all company Health & Safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe work environment
  • Assists in the administration and preparation of employee relations activities such as the Anniversary Awards Reception, Children’s Christmas party, Be Our Guest program, colleague parties etc.
  • Assists with AccorHotels training initiatives, such as The Heartist Journey, Service Promise, Orientation etc. 
  • Assists in maintaining a confidential organised filing system for employee files, correspondence, policies, standards, and regulations
  • Occasionally work a flexible schedule, where required, including intermittent evening hours and weekends
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Demonstrates technical expertise and interpersonal skills to liaise and facilitate consultations with managers, Union Representatives and external service providers.
  • Strong documentation and time management skills.  Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to manage stressful situations in a professional and methodical manner
  • Outstanding interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • A positive attitude with a passion for service, team building and helping others be successful

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years of directly related experience in disability management, including occupational disability claims
  • Experience working with Workers Compensation and Health and Safety policies and procedures
  • Previous experience managing or supervising in a unionized environment preferred
  • Experience in leading JOHSC is an asset
  • In-depth working knowledge of and experience with disability management best practices preferred
  • Knowledge of benefits administration and provincial benefits offerings an asset
  • A degree or diploma in Health Sciences or related discipline is an asset (e.g. Kinesiology, Occupational Health and Safety)
  • Certification as a CRTWC (Certified Return to Work Coordinator) or CDMP (Certified Disability Management Professional) or other related professional designation is preferred
  • Previous leadership experience and/or experience communicating with senior leaders is an asset

Equivalencies of education and experience may be considered.
