Barista / Bartender, Orchid Court

As a Bartender with Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, you will be an ambassador for the exceptional service and flavors that are hallmarks of our restaurant and lounge experience, educating customers about our premium coffees and teas. 

Hotel Overview: 

Fairmont Orchid is a luxury AAA four-diamond Kohala Coast oceanfront resort with white sand lagoon, Hawaiian Spa Without Walls, golf, extensive meeting facilities, year-round children's program, five restaurants and tennis, all serviced with Aloha.  We are currently looking for new colleagues to join our 'ohana and share that aloha here at Fairmont Orchid.

 

Summary of Responsibilities: Reporting to the Restaurant Manager, responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • consistently offer professional, friendly and engaging service
  • anticipate guest and server needs
  • mix and create coffees, teas and cocktails for all servers
  • clean and clear bar and surrounding areas during service
  • stock all beverages and supplies and maintain stocking levels
  • tend to cashier duties for servers for cash payments
  • maintain proper condition and cleanliness of service areas and  equipment
  • monitor and maintain coffee, tea, beer, wine, liquor, and beverage supplies for restaurant
  • must have knowledge of various coffees, teas, liquors and wines
  • ability to describe all menu items, prices, and methods of preparation and to use suggestive up selling techniques to encourage the guests to choose items that are house specialties
  • must have knowledge of mixing and creating basic liquor drinks.
  • have full knowledge of beverage lists and promotions
  • have full knowledge of all menu items, garnishes, contents and preparation methods
  • develop an understanding of coffee and tea regions and the various differences in flavor and blends
  • answer customer questions regarding coffee drinks, blends, roasts and preparations
  • prepare and sell coffee drinks by following prescribed recipes and preparation techniques for coffee drinks such as expresso, caffe latte, cappuccino, etc.
  •  follow outlet policies, procedures and service standards
  •  follow all safety and sanitation policies when handling food and beverage
  •  other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

  • Previous bartending experience preferred
  • Excellent knowledge of all beverage products
  • Previous point of sale system experience an asset
  •  Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal and problem solving abilities
  • Highly responsible & reliable
  • Must be able to speak, read and write English
  • Basic math skills
  • Must have Hawaii Department of Liquor Control Blue Card
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in either written oral, diagram or schedule form
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to focus and maintain attention to performance of tasks and to work and complete assignments on time despite frequent stressful, emergency, critical or unusual interruptions
  • Knowledge of the appropriate table settings and service ware
  • Ability to memorize, recollect and quickly retrieve dates, names, times and other date
  • Ability to work cohesively with fellow colleagues as part of a team
  • Ability to focus attention on guest needs, remaining calm and courteous at all times

 

Physical Aspects of Position (include but are not limited to): 

  • Constant standing and walking throughout shift
  • Frequent use of hand to finger, handle to feel
  • Frequent lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs
  • Frequent talking, hearing, tasting or smelling
  • Frequent squatting, twisting the upper body
  • Occasional kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, stooping, crouch or crawl
  • Occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs and ramps
  • Frequent use of coffee / espresso machine, blender and point of sale system
  • Close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, ability to adjust focus
  • Frequently work near moving parts and wet or humid conditions
  • Ability to work with and around moderate noise
