The Bachelor of Business in International Tourism Managment prepares graduates for many of the business roles available in the tourism industry in Ireland and internationally today, while at the same time it develops students entrepreneuial skills to facilitate new business start-ups.

Why study Tourism Management? This award will prepare you for many of the business roles available in the tourism industry. You will develop skills appropriate to both operational and supervisory management levels. The programme will also develop entrepreneurial skills to facilitate new business start-ups and, in today’s economic climate, these skills will prove invaluable upon graduation. The integrated work placement in Year 1 and Year 2 allows you to experience at first hand the challenges, demands and rewards of working in this exciting and ever-changing industry. Year 1: -Tourism & Hospitality Industry Skills -Introduction to Tourism -Communications and Customer Care -Learning and Innovation Skills -Tourism Geography, Information Technology -Introduction to Accounting and Business Maths -History, Heritage and Culture in the Tourism Industry First year students must also choose a language and culture module (French, German, Spanish, or Gaeilge). Prior study of a language is not required. Field trips are a key component of this course, and students will be asked to contribute towards the cost of bus hire, visitor attraction admission, guides, etc. Work Placement 1: Twelve week placement after Year One examinations (normally June, July, and August). This is to take place in Ireland and is supported and co-ordinated by the LINKS office in conjunction with the student. Year 2: -International Tourism -Marketing Principles -Introduction to Tourism Law -Financial Accounting -Guiding -Management Accounting -Placement Reflection -Reporting In Year Two, students are encouraged to continue studying an international language during the remainder of the course, and to complete their international placement in a location that supports the development of the language. Field trips are a key component of this programme and students will be asked to contribute towards the cost of bus hire, visitor attraction admission, guides, etc. Work Placement 2: Twelve week placement after Year Two examinations (normally June, July, and August). This is to take place in an international destination and is supported and co-ordinated by the LINKS office in conjunction with the student. Year 3: -Tourism Economics, -Environmental Tourism -Financial Management -Entrepreneurship -Contemporary Tourism -Human Resource Management -Services Marketing -International Study Tour In Year Three, students undertake a self-funded mandatory International Study Tour module. Students will be involved in planning, organising and fundraising for this international field trip.
