The Continent IT Leader - US & CN is a member of the Information Technology & Digital and US & Canada leadership teams.  The position is the strategic Technology business leader for the Americas.  As a business partner to the US & CN leadership team, the incumbent drives key technology-enabled initiatives and ensures system-wide implementation of programs consistently across the continent in order to align continent execution and business results with MI strategy.  The Continent IT Leader - US & CN provides 1) strategic technology perspective and guidance for the optimization of existing and emerging technology applications and infrastructure for the continent; 2) oversight of all aspects of Continent field based technology activities ensuring effective management, support and operation of all technologies in alignment with business needs, service level agreements and MI technology standards; 3) leadership of technology resources which support all brands; 4) leadership in all aspects of compliance to Marriott International policies relating directly to technology, information security standards, and hardware and software standards; 5) leadership of the Owner-Franchise Technology Council; and 6) Continent representation as part of global technology leadership.


CANDIDATE PROFILE

Education and Experience

  • 4-year degree from an accredited university required. MBA or Master of Science/Graduate Degree in technology or business field preferred.

  • 15+ years in technology management and/or business consulting, demonstrating progressive career growth, to include as a technology leader on a senior leadership team, and patterns of exceptional performance.

  • Significant experience and success in implementing new business applications with complex technology integration and business process change on time, on budget, and with high stakeholder satisfaction.

  • Hospitality and/or travel industry experience to include working with management companies (ownership and/or franchise), strongly preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to apply technology-enabled solutions to business problems. 

  • Demonstrated ability to translate business needs into operational priorities. 

  • Direct management of cross functional, sourced and matrixed teams.
  • Direct management of complex budgets in excess of $30M in direct and indirect costs.

  • Demonstrated ability to assess stakeholder needs, creatively approach solutions, and decide and influence appropriate course of action.

  • Ability to work through ambiguous and open-ended business requirements and priorities and translate the same into a clear roadmap and definition of success

  • Executive level communications skills with sensitivity to global workforce and internal and external stakeholder communication needs. Ability to establish clear communication and storytelling via presentations, key performance metrics, reports and data.

  • Dynamic interpersonal skills including team player that works well with counterparts from various functions/departments and has the ability to influence the work of counterparts without direct reporting accountability.

  • Experience building business cases to drive investment and resource decisions.

  • Results oriented; delivers results under difficult conditions and demonstrates balanced judgment under pressure

  • Strong organizational skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple high-complexity efforts and competing priorities.

  • Robust analytical skills, including the ability to analyze data, draw conclusions, develop recommendations and report out.

  • Thrives in a fast-paced, customer driven environment.

Responsibilities impacting this position are; 1) the drive to move to “above property technology solutions”; 2) the dependence on technology by all business functions to achieve their functional goals; 3) increased expectations of our guests for new technology services (e.g. always connected); 4) the increased requirement to ensure the protection of guest personal and Marriott International sensitive information. The Continent IT Leader - US & CN fills a strategic role with significant impact in the overall value delivered from Marriott International’s investments in technology to maximize returns and mitigate risk by:

  • Contributing to the development of technology strategy and developing goals for areas of responsibility that are aligned with the Continent’s business goals and the greater technology organization.

  • Ensuring the Continent’s specific and unique strategic business requirements are fully represented and incorporated into the systems and services provided by the Information Technology & Digital function.

  • Providing strategic direction and guidance in the appropriate use of existing and emerging technologies in alignment with strategic and operating plans and priorities that drive profitability and support growth. Align the organization to drive a high return on the Continent’s investment in technology. 

  • Driving the strategic positioning of Marriott technology with owners and franchisees during the development process and expanding the awareness of Marriott technical capabilities in support of continent growth opportunities.

  • Ensuring Continent alignment with strategic technology initiatives while optimizing current resources both at the global discipline and continent level.

  • Providing strategic oversight to Continent based technology programs in collaboration with continent business leaders.

  • Driving initiatives to protect information and data integrity and reduce operating risk to the company while accounting for multi-country government regulations.

  • Continuously looking to the future to set and shape the overall strategy for US & CN Field Services to ensure that the field discipline has the ability to support the changing technology needs of the business.

  • Working in a close partnership with other Technology functions to provide a seamless response to the technology needs of our hotels and other MI field-based locations.

  • Guiding Continent specific strategic vendor/service provider relationships for all technology related platforms and products in market to provide consistent delivery of services.

  • Establishes and maintains strong, collaborative relationships with key stakeholder groups to understand the business, ensure timely exchange of information and customer satisfaction, and effectively influence key business decisions. Provides ongoing advice and guidance to business partners and centers of expertise concerning issues related to areas of responsibility.

  • Attracting, retaining and developing a high performing team of technology professionals who can effectively partner with key business leaders at various organizational levels on strategic business issues and opportunities and translate those business issues into IT strategies and actions. 

  • Creating an environment of a continuous learning providing the change management leadership necessary to keep the organization abreast of the latest technologies needed to effectively compete in the lodging industry.

  • Ensuring the technology needs of Marriott International are met in a manner that is consistent with MI systems and technology standards.  Ensures compliance with all Marriott International Policies (MIP) and Information Security Manual (ISM) initiatives.
