JOB SUMMARY
 

Leads Marriot Digital’s Global Platforms & Tools team and its efforts to enhance and expand the global capabilities and scale the core platform to drive Marriott’s digital efforts. The Senior Director, Digital Platforms and Tools will foster a culture of innovation and collaboration through close partnership with various continent and Marriott HQ stakeholders to deliver revenue growth, deepen customer engagement, and activate new audiences for the company. Reporting to the VP, Global Platforms & Continent Partnerships, this position will be responsible for growing and managing a team of high performing product and platform managers who oversee day-to-day development of the Platforms and Tools products. This role will also provide thought leadership and expertise to help grow Marriott’s global footprint by elevating and extending the platform and operational capabilities.

 

CANDIDATE PROFILE

 
Education and Experience
  • 4-year degree from an accredited college or university
  • 10+ years of experience in product management / development positions, with demonstrated experience in complex technical platforms or transformational initiatives, including:
    • Direct experience leading teams in defining, creating and supporting enterprise-scale platforms with digital implementations
    • Direct experience collaborating with marketing, analytic and technology teams in defining, creating and supporting customer-facing digital experiences
    • Experience with complex content management and global presentations improvements
    • Consulting and strategy development experience, including complex stakeholder engagement and action planning
  • Knowledge and practice of core principals of software development lifecycles – preference for knowledge and experience with Agile practices.
  • Knowledge of internet and mobile technologies and ability to leverage technical capabilities to meet business needs
  • Experience managing multiple complex initiatives simultaneously
  • Excellent program / project management skills to lead teams in distributed environments involved in delivering complex business systems. 
  • Relationship-building skills as well as strong leadership and team management skills, with deep understanding of business impact on delivery.
  • Strong planning skills including ability to develop presentations, roadmaps and spreadsheets.
  • Strong interpersonal and meeting facilitation skills required to lead and manage all team members, internal and external clients, vendors and meetings.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills that inspire team confidence while motivating team members in a creative and effective manner
  • Ability to solve real-life problems quickly, think creatively and satisfy speed-to-market needs
  • Dynamic people skills (team orientation, judgment, interpersonal relations, results/goal orientation, resiliency/adaptability)
  • Experience managing products and projects through a highly matrix and relationship-based organization
 
CORE WORK ACTIVITIES
 

Product Leadership

  • Collaborate with VP, Global Platforms and Continent Partnership to own and deliver the Marriott Digital Global Product & Platform Initiative Roadmap
  • Responsible for formulating a defensible product vision, strategy & roadmap and guide the execution of the roadmap
  • Create global platforms strategy, solutions and tools that span and can be managed by distributed, global markets in 12+ languages – balancing both near term priorities and long-term visions
  • Develop a comprehensive strategy and roadmap for enhancing and expanding the global platform’s content management and globalization / localization capabilities
  • Lead and scale the Platforms & Tools team to meet Marriott business priorities
  • Collaborate with cross-organizational stakeholders to align and elevate Digital Global Platform, products and experiences.  These partnerships include International Leadership; Sales, Distribution Strategy and Revenue teams; iT; and across the Digital organization.
  • Advocate for disruptive platform and product solutions that can become key market differentiators for Marriott
  • Define key metrics and implement measurement of metrics, to determine product performance and gain insights into ability to achieve product goals, new opportunities and growth potential
  • Communicate product wins, opportunities, and the product vision through compelling discussions and presentations.
 

Support Other Strategic Initiatives

  • Support effects across Global Digital, UX and Product leads to understand emerging and global market opportunities and technologies and help create strategies to implement within Marriott Digital
  • Report progress against key business KPIs for Digital team and lead focused improvement planning against same
  • Partner with leaders across BMSC to share our digital strategy
  • Drive a process for prioritization and road-mapping which enables fact-based decision-making, resource allocation and operating efficiency
  • Continue to drive associate engagement by identifying and removing critical organizational blockers and creating new development and growth opportunities
  • Attract and retain key talent and build a culture and process around innovation, iteration and collaboration
 

Managing and Conducting Human Resources Activities

  • Interviews and hires employees.
  • Promotes the fair and equitable treatment of employees.
  • Facilitates regular, ongoing communication in department (e.g., staff meetings).

  • Conducts annual performance appraisal with direct reports according to Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Champions change ensures brand and regional business initiatives are implemented and communicates follow-up actions to team as necessary.
  • Identifies talents of direct reports and their teams and assists with their growth and development plans.
