As part of the newly formed Commercial Strategy organization for Walt Disney World, the Commercial Management team will be responsible for driving new revenue initiatives within each of the profit centers at WDW (Theme Parks, Hotels and Disney Springs/ESPN Wide World of Sports). This team will coordinate work with key functional partners including Operations, Pricing, Revenue Management & Analytics, Finance, WDW Marketing Strategy, and the Marketing and Sales Centers of Excellence.
The Manager, Commercial Strategy, will be embedded experts supporting profit centers Vice Presidents, who can quickly assess and implement new programs that drive revenue growth. The Manager will work through a cross-functional virtual team sitting with each product VP to understand their local needs and opportunities and define, prioritize, and activate unplanned revenue driving initiatives, identify new market opportunities, and manage the ongoing performance and optimization of the local P&L. This role will foster an entrepreneurial mindset, seeking to maximize our ability to monetize the brands and assets within each profit center with commercially viable ideas. Responsibilities
  • Establish close partnership with local VP, operations, and local function teams (e.g., Finance, CIMA, IE)
  • Understand local business needs and opportunities and synthesize disparate data sources into a clear state of the business
  • Gain a deep understanding and clear articulation of the P&L at the local level
  • Continually evaluate the full portfolio of OI generating assets and proactively identify opportunities to add-to, extend leverage of, update or replace under-performing assets
  • Analyze and prioritize brand strategies to optimize spend and resources
  • Create integrated communications plan for local brand initiatives in partnership with Marketing and Sales teams
  • Quickly assess and evaluate new business initiatives that revenue growth and OI
  • Balance a bias-for-action with thoughtful planning to ensure initiatives are commercially viable and drive the highest value
  • Manage a master calendar of initiatives by product and deliver initiatives in coordination with partners
  • Analyze and understand business performance, needs, risks and opportunities and proactively create solutions to address gaps in forecast or competitive marketplace
  • Create clear plan for commercial management and create alignment for the site leaders
Basic Qualifications
  • Ten (10) + years of experience and functional knowledge collectively in brand management and strategy, advertising, promotions, public relations, direct marketing with at least five (5) years in a leadership role
  • Proven leadership capabilities within a matrix organization, especially the ability to lead virtual teams
  • Ability to build strategic alliances/relationships within and outside the Disney organization
  • Demonstrated effectiveness as an inspirational leader with strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated business acumen working with P&L and annual operating plans
  • Demonstrated effectiveness for strategic and critical thinking; ability to challenge the status quo
  • Experience in driving complex initiatives and integrating diverse perspectives
  • Proven ability to manage a large volume of complex work effectively and efficiently, prioritizing continually to ensure business results are achieved
  • Possess an entrepreneurial spirit and ability to drive effective risk-taking
Required Education
  • Degree in Marketing, Business, or equivalent field
Preferred Education
  • Master degree or MBA preferred
