ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:

We are looking for a BI Engineer to join our People Analytics Team and help our stakeholders make smart, data driven decisions and make WeWork a great place to work. Data underlies decisions related to hiring, promotion, compensation, engagement, development, careers, attrition, benefits, diversity, and the culture at the heart of WeWork. We are focused on providing self-service analytics through visualizations and interactive tools.

In this role, you will help define how the business uses & interprets data. The ideal candidate is passionate about data analysis, people insights and bringing value to the People Team functions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist the Senior Engineer or Manager with data engineering projects as requested

  • Help rebuild or restructure data pipelines/processes

  • Manage our ETL and ELT processes and take part in ensuring data integrity in databases like postgres and snowflake

  • Maintain and support business critical applications/dashboards

  • Act as an internal consultant to HR partners and business leaders by understanding business needs/problems, data requests, synthesizing insights, and recommending solutions to key partners

  • Manage ad hoc analysis requests, preparation, and presentation of insights leveraging the people analytics engineering team to help answer business stakeholder questions and support their objectives.

  • Manage multiple concurrent projects that require inputs from HR cross-functional stakeholders

  • Identify trends and make recommendations to address the top issues to the People Leadership team



ABOUT YOU:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field

  • You have a solid knowledge of at least one of these languages (Python or Java)

  • You have a good understanding of data structures & algorithms and can think abstractly before coding

  • You are comfortable working with various APIs to retrieve data

  • You have the ability to write complex SQL queries in at least one SQL variant (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Snowflake, Redshift) and deep understanding of aggregate functions, joins and subqueries

  • You have 1+ years of experience in Tableau desktop or have a willingness to learn/develop Tableau skills

  • You have a willingness to learn AWS, linux administration, and other tools used in data engineering

  • You are comfortable with programming as an individual contributor and in a team and can complete projects with some supervision from the Senior Engineer or Manager

  • You have an analytical background and recent experience in business intelligence and data storytelling (visual communication, dashboard design, and written internal communications)

  • You’ve demonstrated net positive contributions to company community and culture and enjoy working with autonomy and shaping an important function

  • You thrive in an ever-changing environment and love to navigate through ambiguity in the organization



Bonus Points:

  • Experience working with Cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure) and workflow orchestration frameworks (Airflow, Luigi)

  • Experience with MPP database systems (Snowflake, Redshift)

  • Experience working in an HR organization

  • Transforming XML files using XSLT
