Shangri-La Sydney is the city's leading deluxe hotel. Located in the historic Rocks district between the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge, our hotel offers 564 spacious and inspired luxury guest rooms and suites and 18 function rooms.

We are seeking a dynamic and results-oriented Business Development Manager to maximize sales revenue and grow new business for the Australasia properties (Sydney, Cairns and Fiji) in MICE segments.

Under the guidance and supervision of the Director of Sales and Events and Area Director of Sales and Marketing, and within the limits of established corporate / sales office policies and procedures, implement all sales activities in your specific area of responsibility

Duties and Responsibilities:

Planning

  • To act within the policies of the Group and within the agreed budget. To accomplish these objectives/targets as approved in the annual SLSN / SLMC / FIJ Marketing Plan, as well as own personal targets as agreed with the ADOSM and DOS per property.


Sales

  • In accordance with the sales action plan, actively sell and promote all Shangri-La Hotels Australasia to Direct Corporate MICE and PCOs.
  • Prospect to establish new accounts through Agency 360/Sales Navigator etc.
  • Plan and conduct sales call and telephone calls on all designated accounts.
  • To organize and coordinate sales visits, prioritizing markets for solicitation to the property’s needs, assisting with planning and programming of promotional functions and promotion specials.
  • Attend tradeshows and other local functions to increase the exposure for Shangri-La Australasia.
  • Maintain and seek out new business opportunities, developing further business.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with airlines, DMCs, NTOs etc., within the region and actively seek opportunities for business promotions to the trade and consumer with these colleagues.
  • Seek out new and better ways to improve our efforts to stay ahead of the competition.
  • Use all sources of potential lead information to prospect for new business
  • Assist other sales colleagues in the office with any client-related activities, promotions etc.
  • Working in conjunction with Conversion teams and Global Sales Office team in maximise business opportunities where possible.
  • Communicate promotional opportunities, competitors’ activities, and general observations on market trends to the DOSM and the hotels, when appropriate.
  • Make recommendations to the ADOSM and to DOSE on each property for any changes in the sales strategy felt necessary to enhance more business.
  • To achieve and exceed sales goals as set out in yearly Goal Performance Reviews
  • Monitor accounts’ production and prepare critiques, in the process offer solution to improve sales production.
  • Maintain the highest standard of professionalism, ethics and attitude towards clients and colleagues.
  • Business unit administration and revenue performance.


Qualifications:

  • At least 1 year experience in a Regional or Global Sales role
  • Demonstrate hands-on leadership skills that exemplify a high sense of commitment, integrity, teamwork and honesty that will develop sales and support staff.
  • Excellent planning and follow-up skills
  • Strategic thinker who can interact with all levels of management with internal and external customers in a friendly and positive manner.
  • Personal computer knowledge mandatory (Lanyon, Salesforce, Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel).
  • Self-motivated, detail orientated sales professional who can work independently.
  • Teamwork and proven ability to productively interact with GSO management.
