The historic building, dating from the 16th century, was home to nobility and a refuge for kings. Restored in 1850 and converted into a high-class luxury hotel on 2003, the hotel preserves the building´s original spirit in the restaurant and public areas, while blending this style with an avant-garde décor in the 63 guest-rooms and meeting rooms. THE HISTORY OF A 19TH CENTURY PALACE OF BARCELONA

During the XVI century the property in front of the port of Barcelona was in the Cardona family’s hands. Lineages like the Gualbes, the Montcadas or the Queralts also built their residences in this prestigious avenue, lodging also the Royal Court during its luxury stays in the city of Barcelona. The present construction was finished in 1850, when the original building was enlarged in an eclectic style under a neoclassic inspiration. Its most noble face was the one that could be opened from Mercé Street - our breakfast restaurant today -, and not the one facing the port; However, due to the sea wall disappearance in 1888, the Passeig Colom face became the most visible one.
