Role Purpose

Set AMER Environment Strategy and lead regional implementation including internal cross functional engagement and external stakeholder engagement to achieve IHG’s Journey to Tomorrow environmental commitments and targets.  This role will be responsible for leading the Americas’ Environment Team and coordinating and aligning Journey to Tomorrow resources embedded in the departments responsible for delivering against IHG’s Journey to Tomorrow priorities.  External engagement responsibilities will include supporting the AMER Government Affairs team and coordinating engagement with industry associations and leading NGOs.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead development of Americas Environment strategy to deliver against Journey to Tomorrow priorities and anticipate emerging global priorities (i.e., WWB)
  • Co-lead development and delivery of AMER decarbonization strategy with HLG team
  • Lead AMER Environment Team, including coaching and developing team members.
  • Responsible for implementing processes to support efficient functioning of the AMER environment team and quality of deliverables.
  • Lead implementation of renewable energy strategy
  • Responsible for developing and implementing AMER data strategy to ensure complete and verifiable reporting.
  • Represent IHG’s environment work with key external stakeholders (e.g., industry associations, NGOs, etc.)
  • Collect and provide regional input and feedback on global environmental strategies.
  • Lead integration of Waste, Water, and Biodiversity strategies into AMER regional action plans
  • Support AMER Government Affairs on state and federal policies impacting IHG environmental goals and engagement with state and federal officials.
  • Lead cross functional collaboration with key teams responsible for achieving IHG’s environmental goals (e.g. Operations, AD&C, Finance, etc.)
  • Works with the regional leadership to assess performance and develop improvement plans.
  • Responsible for regional and above-property engagement on all aspects of environmental sustainability e.g. delivery of webinars and workshops
  • Supports wider corporate responsibility programs in the region as a key member of the regional CR team.
  • Collaborates with Global Director of Environmental Sustainability on identifying solutions, recommendations and potential partnerships.
     


Key Skills & Experiences

Education

Bachelor’s Degree. Master's Degree preferred in a relevant field of work or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.

Experience –

10+ years progressive work-related experience with demonstrated proficiency in team development, strategy development and program management and execution in a global, multi-cultural environment.

Critical Experience, Skills and Knowledge

  • Knowledge of environmental sustainability, CSR, and wider social, environmental and governance issues
  • Demonstrated ability to handle and report environmental data including energy, waste, water, and greenhouse gas emissions for e.g., CDP, DJSI or another framework.
  • Understanding and practical experience of environmental sustainability in the hotel sector and/or the built environment would be favorable.
  • Strong ability to lead through influence to achieve measurable results.
  • Strategic planning to enable focus on prioritized results.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills and demonstrated ability to simplify and adapt complex concepts to meet the needs of diverse stakeholders and audiences (e.g., leadership, technical, internal, external, etc.)
  • Strong project management skills and demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and efficiently, and to perform concurrent tasks that require technical and functional competence.
  • Strong and demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders and maintain a consistent, high-quality customer-focused orientation, including providing clear, accurate information; explaining procedures or materials or providing supplemental information; anticipating problems or questions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with th Microsoft Office platform (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint and Word).
  • Knowledge of environmental management systems and green certifications such as ISO14001 and LEED/ BREEAM
