JOB SUMMARY

 

Sustainability manager provides strategic sustainability support developing sustainability objectives, initiatives, or strategies in collaboration with the Sustainability Executive Committee.

Education and Experience

Typically a job would require a certain level of education.
Employers hiring for the sustainability manager job most commonly would prefer for their future employee to have a relevant degree such as Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Sustainability, Engineering, Business, Environmental Science, MBA, Education, Management, Science, Environmental Studies, Technical

Essential Experience 

• Experience and/or knowledge of hotel business.

• Demonstrated knowledge of sustainable business principles and experience related to operational implementation and practice in a business setting.

• Ability to understand data collection methods.

• A tailor-made integration plan to set you for success and an on-going focus on your performance and development.

• Working knowledge of statistical measurement tools.

• Effective presentation skills.

• Demonstrated success at managing complex initiatives from concept.

• Ability to own and manage complex projects with a high level of independence.

Desirable Experience 

• Sustainability and energy principles and concepts.

• Particularly related to the built environment.

• Responsible for direction and implementation of the recycling promotion.

• Highly organized with strong project management skill technical problem solving skills

 

CORE WORK ACTIVITIES

 

Qualifications for sustainability manager

• Clear understanding of the green building industry and green building certification schemes.

• Ability to work collaboratively across diverse teams and effectively champion a position within multiple competing priorities.

• Ability to effectively communicate and translate complex technical information across multiple audiences, from internal business meetings.

• Passion for driving sustainability achievements.

• Ability to perform quantitative tasks with speed and accuracy, including collection and management of data.

• Ability to achieve goals through influence and objective-sharing without direct authority.

• Raise the profile of Marriott’s sustainability work externally and internally by devising and activating plans for Team Member, guest, owner and community engagement.

• Support Marriott’s overall strategic plan for sustainability, working closely with internal and external stakeholders.

• Manage sustainability reporting initiatives, working both on program development and implementation.

• Provide strategic input on sustainability communications.

• Management and operational coordination (reporting, database, co-pilot of sustainability initiatives).

• Guide and support in the suppliers’ corrective action process and drive supplier achieve KPIs such as closure rates of non-conformances.

• Determine how the property sustainability function can continue to evolve to better promote and protect Marriott’s reputation, aligning the team’s efforts with others taking place across the business.

 

Executing Sustainability Programs

• Sustainability Culture and Capability Building – lead efforts to build a sustainability culture though awareness, education and capability building.

• Policy and Stakeholder Engagement - manages stakeholder relationships to effectively set contemporary policies and goals for environmental sustainability.

• Support Marriott’s overall strategic plan for sustainability, working closely with internal and external stakeholders.

• Develop property Sustainability strategy and narrative, working with external agencies where appropriate.

• Derive and propagate sustainability mindset in Strategic delivery.

• Represent the Company via community education and engagement opportunities, events, workshops, and conferences locally.

• Work with Marketing Communications team to generate awareness for the program internally and externally.
